Apple have some open source ports for streaming server
http://developer.apple.com/darwin/projects/streaming/
Was thinking this is the way to go on a Linux machine.
Not sure what happens to the wmv and mpeg's, they probably play and stream but not under management. May be even possible to force users to right click and save as.
I would not mind standardising on 'mov' at all, as users will find a player if they really want to see something.
If i had a big online library it seems a sensible option, as I cannot imagine window media server ever being a linux port. :')
In general I would like to ask about streaming and Linux.
What software are you using or not using.
Where is the threshold where you really need to use management to keep you machine up 24x7 ?
