Auto CD player hates Beethoven's 3rd

I've recently used VV30 to archive my 7-LP set of Beethoven's nine symphonies. I know this sounds weird, but the CD player in my car refuses to play the Eroica (Symphony No. 3).

I've cut this disc three times at varying speeds. Each cut plays fine everywhere else (in my DVD player, my component CD player, any of my computer CD players). The other 8 sypmphonies play fine in my car. I use one of those 50-disc spindle holders to tote my "rolling" stock . . . every disc in the stack plays fine except Beethoven's 3rd.

I hope someone here will 'splain it to me. My brain tells me it's not possible for some sort of pattern in the music to cause this. That piece when played in my car exhibits all the characteristics of buffer under run. Clicks, skips, loops. The defects do not always appear at the same point during subsequent playings of the disc. Sometimes you can get three or four minutes in before the problems start. At other times, the problems start at the very beginning.

My CD player includes a cassette player as well. I may have to resort to that medium.

I'm wonderin' if someone at SF can write a fix for this.

i think its a problem with the cd player... how old is it?

The car is a '98 model, so, I guess the cd player (original equipment) is the same age. But, why Beethoven's 3rd and not 1,2, or 4 through 9?

I guess it could be a problem with the burner, or the car cd player. there are lots of little compatibility problems between burners/media/players.

Cheese (or anyone else, for that matter):
Is there anything special about "music" cd's that might make them play more reilably in my car than regular data CD's onto which I record music?

My observation is quite limited, but, I copied the Beethoven 3rd Symphony from the disc that won't play in my car onto a music CD (using my Philips CD recorder) and it played from one end to the other (I guess that's from the center to the edge) without skipping.

Not fretting it but still curious.

The only difference with a "Music" CD-R is that it has some extra coding information pre-burned onto it that proves to the burning machine you use that you've paid the extra royalty fee for it. Other than that they are absolutely identical to the "Data" CD-R media.

This kind of reminds me of my old college roommate's VCR. He took the cover off to clean the inside and then lost it. Of course, the VCR still worked without the cover ... if the room lights were off. And if there was ever a bright flash of light in the movie, the VCR would stop playing and start rewinding the tape. All of this made absolutely no sense to my roommate or his friends who tried to figure it out. It seemed a complete mystery until i pointed out that the VCR uses a light beam to sense the clear leader at the end of the tape. Without the cover, any light in the room would trip the sensor.

We've probably got something similar going on here. It seems a total mystery to us now, but one of us will eventually be able to say, "you know ...."
