External Monitor & Audio Sync

This might be something simple, but I'm not sure where to proceed.

I'm using my IEEE 1394 card connected to my camcorder pass through to a LCD TV, for external monitoring.

Last year I did a very large project with Movie Studio Platinum 6 with the same set up and had no problems with the audio being in sync, however with Platinum 7 the audio is out of sync with the LCD TV. When I turn off the external monitor option, the video and audio are in sync within the video preview box, any suggestions to correct the sync problem?

Will changing playback buffering or adjusting the sync offset (frames) have an impact on the final product in the DVD? What do these setting do exactly?

Just a note, the advance settings in the audio device tab is grayed out.

Thanks,

Kelvin

The problem you have is that you are using two devices that add a delay to your video signal processing.

That's not unusual but you need to add more delay to your video to compensate first for the IEEE1394 conversion to analogue video and then again for the inherent delay in the LCD TV.

You do this by select Options/Preferences/Preview Device and then adjust the Sync Offset (frames) till you have sync again.

It has no affect on the final DVD product or rendered AVIs it's just a timing buffer to allow for the delay in fire-wire output to analogue.

The maximum number of frames available is 12 but that should be enough to compensate for both devices.

You don't need to get to the advanced audio options for this process as this usually allows for options that the drivers for your audio device provide such as digital I/O configuration if it exists.

Thanks, that fix it.

I guess last year the default settings worked and I didn't have to change them.
