OT: "Must-See Short shot with the Canon 7D"

This makes even me rethink what video camera to get next, for multiple reasons:

Wear a bib if you are subject to drooling...

It's just lush in a way that is not so easy to get with a traditional video camera at any reasonable price. And that's with no color grading. Zip-zilch-nada!

Of course there are situations when you need a pure "video camera" but this provides something extremely attractive at a very reasonable price point.

I just noticed also that the 7D shoots 1080p H.264 at 23.976 fps, 25.000 fps and 29.97 fps.

No more 30.000p goofiness to deal with.

Does it record audio too?

48kHz PCM audio, which is about ideal.

No way.

Philip Bloom has outdone himself again:

(I was in tears from laughing so hard, even though it's not the first subtitling revision of this famous footage :O)

(Wasn't it the EX series the first time?)

Thanks for that. Just about every working day I have to endure someone telling me we should have bought a 5D.
We actually got a bit smart and bought all the accessories for the 5D as many who've bought them and a set of lenses have no money left for the bits to make the camera usable.

Brilliant, Bob!

And the 7D is a thousand bucks less ($1699 at B&H, on backorder alas), in addition to taking more lenses and records video at a higher bit rate [than the 5D MkII] for max. quality...

The 5D is the better still camera though, for all but nature photographers who need the 60% tele boost of the 7D.

Hmmm, it also shoots full quality 720p slow motion (720p59.94 footage conformed to 29.97 fps).
