"Product not installed correctly" File system glitch

Over the weekend, I converted most of the partitions on my XP-Pro box to NTFS from Fat32. This morning, my wife called to let me know that attempting to start Vegas as well as DVD Architect yielded a message that said "The product is not installed correctly." I talked her though finding and reinstalling the latest versions. They offered to over-write the files in the Setup directory, which she did, and to repair the installation, which she did. No help.

A knowledge base article about a different error suggests uninstalling the products, deleting the Setup directory, and then reinstalling. Will this fix the problem? Or, is there something else going on?

Both programs do run on NTFS, doin't they?

Cheers,
Peyton

NTFS is supported, and is preferred. Uninstall, if you still can. Download the latest updates, and re-install. Choose yes to overwrite existing whenever prompted.

The uninstall of both products went just fine. I then went to delete the directories, both the program ones and the setup ones. The only thing left in the Sonic Foundry program directories was a directory under Vegas for joystick profiles. In that was, indeed, a profile for my TM Afterburner. What's it for?

The reinstall of both products went great. The "file version" of the DVD Architect update has not changed from the original download - 1.0.0.1, but it does install version 1.0c. Both products had to be reregistered, as did the plug-in to work with MPGs.

A pleasant surprise was that the template for rendering my wife's legal depositions was still available. Odd. I would have guessed that it was saved in the program file directories, but I guess it wasn't.

Thanks for the support, kind EPM person. Great feature of a great set of products.

Cheers,
Peyton

In Vegas 4.0, templates are stored in a folder under your personal application data area for Win2K and WinXP (98SE/ME still stores them under the program install folder). This was necessary to meet XP logo requirements and also because of folder permissions issues.
