Reproducable bug

filmy schrieb am 19.02.2004 um 00:41 Uhr
If this has been reported sorry. I am in edit hell for AFM at the moment and this just happened.

Reproduceable Bug. Every time will cause a crash.

1> Select NTSC DV 29.970 media.
2> Place another NTSC DV 29.970 media on track above. (track 1)
3> Choose chroma key plug in and place it on media on track 1.
4> Adjust as needed.
5> Choose/Highlight the duration of the effect.
6> Choose 'render as' or 'render to new track', it won't matter.
7> Select the "NTSC DV" template.
8> Go into Custom > Video > Field Order and select "None (progressive scan)"
9> Go into Audio settings and deselect "Include audio"
10> Make sure "Render loop region only" is selected.
11> Hit ok.

It will crash every single time. To be sure it was not the media or the project I opened a brand new project and created only 2 video tracks. I placed new Vegas generated media on both tracks and followed the the steps above.

Same exact outcome. Below is the error that happens every time.

I just tried doing what you said and it worked perfectly. By chance what ersion of directX are oyu using?

I am using DX 9b (?) , the latest one.

I can repro the bug over and over again, exactly. I am pretty sure I am not leaving any step out. As I say I opened a brand new project, nothing else open - only one instance of Vegas. The settings were the deafult NTSC settings. I created a new video track and dragged over generated media. Than I created a new video track and dragged another generated media over to that. The rest is step by step as I say.

I can render out anything and everyhting with no issues. I can drop plug-ins in and color correct and do film look and so on and so on. No issues. I have not used every single plug so I can not say this wouldn't happen with another plug as well and this is really the first time I have used the chroma key plug.

Hmm.. I just did it again and no problems. Did you upgrade any drivers recently? Windows updates maybe?

I asked about the DX version because i've had problems with the Directx 9 Debug version (as oposed to the retail version that 99% of people use)

Sorry filmy, I just tried to reproduce this problem and was unsuccessful. It rendered fine on my system also.

Do you still crash if this is checked?

How much smaller is the file with the Audio Excluded . .just wondering? Are you short of real estate?

Are you guys deselecting the audio? I am reading your posts and to make sure I am not dreaming I opened Vegas on another desktop and did everything again. It crashes...again. Exactly as I say.

Now I did what the good Dr suggested - trying with the audio and it works. So I don't know what to say here - as an experement I took out the chroma key plug and tried it, with no audio, and it crashed. I again tried it with only one piece of media on the timeline and left everything alone except the audio and it crashed. This is a bug, it has to be audio related...and I am the only person who can do it over and over and over again? This sounds too wierd. Marquat had had it happen but he isn't saying he can repor it over and over again like I can.

Besides if I don't have audio in the project why should I be forced to render out audio? Say I am doing an effects shot or a composite...I don't need audio. I can render to uncompressed with no audio just fine. I tried rendering to the Canopus DV codec, which I never ever have used to render to before, and it rendered fine with no audio...but it has a watermark. I think I have it because I use it as a reader for outside work that has used the canopus codec.

Well anyhow, I can't feel that I am the only person who can repro this crash this easy. Now that I have done a little more research and see I can make it crash by just doing a 'render as' DV and deselecting audio it seems like anyone can do it.

Try deseleting upon export under the video tab "create AVI 2" (I think its labled as Open DML???) and then try to repro

Cannot reproduce here.

I know it is hard to trouble shoot when it is a twilightzone issue like this but I swear to god it is somehting that I can repro over and over again. It isn't a pressing issue because I can just render out uncompressed or with audio but I woull still like a direction to look because I am at a loss. Dr D as you suggested trying it with the audio on have you run across the issue before?
farss schrieb am 20.02.2004 um 02:05 Uhr
I render AVIs with no audio all the time with no problem but I've had lots of issues with DVDA and not having an audio stream.
Just to be certain I created NSTC project, put checkerboad generated media on T/L and rendered out as NTSC DV with audio unchecked. Works fine.

Have I missed something?
rmack350 schrieb am 20.02.2004 um 05:01 Uhr
Well, tried again. Still no crash.

You say you can take a piece of raw footage and render it as NTSC DV, Progressive, no audio included-crashomatic?

Have you tried blowing Vegas away and then reinstalling? Seems like some sort of codec pollution. Ignore 3rd party codecs is on? Have you played with the other similar prefs?

I hope you can get it solved. Good luck. All I can say is that it can work.

>>>Have I missed something?

Probably not. I am feeling I have yet I can still repro this over and over. But I am the only one it happens to. Nothing has changed so I wish I could have some internal pointer as to what to look for other than doing an uninstall and re-install. SonyEPM must have seen something to ask that I try it with audio on but I haven't heard from him again. I need a Dr. :)
SonyEPM schrieb am 20.02.2004 um 19:36 Uhr
I don't repro on my machine as I write this but we've heard reports of this in the past, so we'll look into it further.

For now just leave audio enabled. The DV file is no bigger, additional render time is practically nil.
