SVP 11 (b. 521) hangs on startup - GTX 580

Jeroenislive schrieb am 27.02.2012 um 20:49 Uhr
We recently bought the EVGA GTX580 3Gb to use in our new edit pc. However Sony Vegas pro 11 keeps freezing at startup along with Windows 7. It freezes while 'initializing video devices'. I re-installed Windows and tried it on a clean system but still no luck.
When I uninstall the nvidia drivers, Vegas will start normally. So it has to do something with the drivers. I also tried older (beta) drivers but i had no luck with that. All other programs are working perfect with this card.

I know Vegas 11 has it's issues with GPU Acceleration features so maybe i have to wait for an update. But if anybody knows what can cause this problem, it would be very helpful.

I've also tried all steps in this post but nothing changed: https://www.custcenter.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1382/kw/hangs/session/L3RpbWUvMTMzMDM3MjA3My9zaWQveHhqWHVNUms%3D

Jeroen

It would really help if you listed your system specs. I can't help you but other, smarter people than I can.

Hi Jeroen,

Have you tried holding Ctrl + Shift while starting Vegas? This will allow you to reset all prefs and delete cached data prior to loading the program.

If you have recently installed new hardware (especially a new graphics card), this is necessary because Vegas may be loading settings for your old hardware.

This advice should be a sticky.

I have installed new hardware, that's why i did a clean windows install to make sure Vegas would not be searching for other cards.

I've also tried ctrl + Shift but nothing changed

You're pointing at the GTX 580 - why not the BlackMagic Decklink HD Extreme 3D?

I'm running VP11 with the 580 with good results, so I'd definitely remove the Decklink from your equation!

I've also tried that but after removing it, Vegas still hangs at 'initializing video devices'

I have installed my ATI HD6780 and with this card Vegas just launch normally.

I just found something in the release notes of build 521:

Known Issues:
- Using the Blackmagic HD Extreme with the Blackmagic ASIO Driver can cause Vegas Pro to hang.

So maybe it's an combination of GPU/editcard/Vegas. Does anybody else uses the BM Decklink card with Vegas 11?

I am using a BMD Decklink Studio 2 card and am using their ASIO driver for sound in Vegas as well as for Windows sounds. No issues here at all with Win 7-64bit and VP11/521.

I am using their Desktop Video 9.0 drivers.

I just installed a factory overclocked EVGA GTX580 1.5GB with the nVidia 295.73 drivers and am having no issues whatsoever. Remembered settings of my GTX260XXX and even kept my dual screens and all icons, etc. Vegas loads fine but I'm using the very first version.

One weird Vegas issue when it first came out was that it needed the latest version of Quicktime installed before it would open. Might check that out.

Something just fixed it. I've updated the Mobo bios and changed Pci Gen3 to Gen2 in System Agent Configuration. Also Vegas had an update to build 595.

So one of these three changes fixed my problem!
