Red Car test results via MAGIX AVC/AAC MP4:

  • Internet HD 1080p 29.97 fps - 2:50 = 170s
  • Internet HD 1080p 29.97 fps (NVIDIA NVENC) - 1:26 = 86s

@Ehemaliger User So what is the difference in our configurations?

  • Processors should be +- similiar https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/Intel-i7-4790K-vs-Intel-i7-6700K/2275vs2565 with a small advantage to your i7-4790K
  • Graphic cards should have also similiar performance
  • Memory maybe? In my case it is only basic DDR4-2400 (1200 MHz).
  • Storage? I have Samsung SSD 850 EVO 500GB.
  • OS? I use Windows 10 Pro build 17744 (Windows Insider Program). I do not know if there are already applied software security patches for intel processors.
  • Something else?

AMD Ryzen 1700X @ 3.8 GHz, AMD R9 380 GPU, 32 GB Memory @ 2.6 GHz

Run 1 @ 56 seconds, Run 2 @ 54 seconds, Run 3 @ 54 seconds

CPU ran about 50% loaded, GPU loading was about 6% (mostly copy)

@Graviphoton Really not sure, my laptop only uses a gtx 1070, faster than 1:26s and 2:50s. My desktop only uses DDR3 not your DDR4. Unless someone else with similar specs to yours can chime in with a Demo or Red Car benchmark? Maybe can you do some independent benchmark on your GTX 1080?

bitman schrieb am 07.09.2018 um 10:55 Uhr

@Graviphoton There must be something wrong with your config or HW, just a wild guess, did you place your NVIDEA card in the correct slot? Check your mobo manual, some PCIE slots are limited to 4x, you should seat your Video card in the 16x PCIE slot and make sure it is not shared with another slot or other HW, that could make it run in 8x

I experimented the use of Vegas 16 demo project located on my Samsung NVMe SSD to a hard drive, to see if that made a difference in rendering, but that just went to 34s to 35s which does not make a difference.

@Graviphoton Is it possible that you have selected the “Intel HD Graphics 530” in VP instead of the GTX 1080?

Graviphoton schrieb am 07.09.2018 um 19:11 Uhr

@bitman My GPU is in the right slot as shown on picture from GPU-Z. BIOS settings checked. Latest NVIDIA driver.

Quick processor check using CPU-Z:

@Ehemaliger User I did not see any graphics selection in VP preferences. There are 2 options:

  • General - Allow legacy GPU rendering (unchecked)
  • Video - GPU acceleration of video processing (Off, only item in list)
Ehemaliger User schrieb am 07.09.2018 um 19:37 Uhr

Therin lies the problem. GPU acceleration of video processing should display your GTX 1080.

Check out Nicks Faq on gpu acceleration etc. https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-graphics-cards-gpu-acceleration-for-vegas-pro--104614/

I found while searching ...

“If your preview window is blank with an NVIDIA card, there are reports that this can be solved by installing a CUDA Toolkit. There is a particular problem with Nvidia driver 378.66.”

Might require getting/reinstalling Nvidia driver and or VP.

Red Car test final results after reinstalling GPU drivers using MAGIX AVC/AAC MP4:

  • Internet HD 1080p 29.97 fps - 2:06 = 126s
  • Internet HD 1080p 29.97 fps (NVIDIA NVENC) - 0:30 = 30s

I checked every entry in BIOS and every graphics option, I played with new possibilities in Windows 10 graphics settings, I reinstalled VP but what made the difference was simple reinstallation of my Nvidia drivers...

Thanks for help!

Way to go!

Kinvermark schrieb am 08.09.2018 um 00:04 Uhr

OK, didn't realize you had changed tests...

New result (Red Car Test): Internet HD 1080p 29.97 fps - 2:11 = 131s (No NVENC, VCE)

That's with an 8 yr old PC!

I would like to upgrade my hardware, but these results aren't very convincing. I am mostly interested in timeline preview performance.

No, not me, I am 9s short !

But the red car only uses Vegas plugins, once you start using 3d party plugins which could be biased in using NVENC then it's another story.

Anyway, here are the red car test results of the Belgian Jury on VP16 :)

23s = (MAGIX AVC/AAC MP4 Internet HD 1080p 29.97 fps (NVIDIA NVENC))

79s = (MAGIX AVC/AAC MP4 Internet HD 1080p 29.97 fps 79s)

What we really need (IMO) is a test that directly reflects timeline editing performance, but I don't have any idea how to make such a test.

Anyway, here are the red car test results of the Belgian Jury on VP16 :)

23s = (MAGIX AVC/AAC MP4 Internet HD 1080p 29.97 fps (NVIDIA NVENC))

79s = (MAGIX AVC/AAC MP4 Internet HD 1080p 29.97 fps 79s)

Just for those who are interested in the QSV render speed. I’m also running an i7-8700k with default speed (no overclocking) and an old passive AMD R7 graphic card active for video processing (decode) acceleration.

So my ‘red car’ render times are:

23s = (MAGIX AVC/AAC MP4 Internet HD 1080p 29.97 fps (QSV))

76s = (MAGIX AVC/AAC MP4 Internet HD 1080p 29.97 fps (CPU))
