365 & the update blues?

Jessariah67 wrote on 8/31/2021, 10:02 AM

I'm thinking of switching to subscription, but I'm wondering if there are any safeguards to the occasional "broken update?" Do you control when & how it is updated, or is it the same as a Windows 10 "forced" update?

I just know that I don't update/upgrade while in the middle of a big project, and would like to still be able to control when it happens and the ability to "go back" if an update is buggy.

I recently switched, glad I did. As far as I'm aware updates are not forced and you can download at your convivence as and when they are released. I haven't had to roll back so can`t comment on that.

@Jessariah67, you control when the update/upgrade gets installed. We supply you with a link to the new installer and a new serial number if you're moving from one version to the next (e.g., from VEGAS Pro 18 to 19), but do not force it on you automatically. When you're ready, you choose when to make the change.

I didn't get any new serial number. Using the same nr in VP19 (365) as in VP18 (365).

(To be more precise: I still haven't received any notice about the new version. Found out there was a new VP when randomly checking Vegas' website/forum. And later got some mails with ads urging to buy the new VP19)

You might have product notifications turned off in preferences - I know I did when the "Don't Show Me Again" option didn't work and i had to deal with a splash screen very time I opened the older version.

Is there anywhere where they explain cross-grading? Does 365 "void" previous ownership - or, can you "cross back" without having to pay full price again?

all versions should still work. You may have to activate an older version to use it, but you still can.

I think 365 licence allows only one active installation at a time - so you have to deactivate your current version, if you want to activate an older (or newer) version.

I think Jessariah67's current version is 18 permanent not the 18 abo 365. In this case version 18 should be untouched from a use of VP19 365.

It's one active machine at a time - you can have as many versions installed as you want using the same serial key, so long as they're all on the same computer.

Nope. I had to deactivate my VP18 before I could install and activate VP19.

Yes, in this case the permanent license of Vegas Pro and Vegas Pro 365 are different pairs of shoes.

Interesting, because I have both VP 18 and VP 19 installed and activated using the same VP 365 serial key.
Similarly I have both Sound Forge Pro 14 and 15 installed using the same SF 365 key.

Looks like I may have been wrong about separate keys, but still they will run side by side.

Jessariah67 wrote on 9/1/2021, 8:45 AM

So my other question is, if I just upgraded to VP19, but want to switch to 365, do I have an option to apply the upgrade price to the 365? If not, then I "own" Vegas and am "leasing" it at the same time? Where can i go to get these questions answered by Magix? I've been all over the customer support center, and all I see are FAQ prompts, and no "still haven't answered your questions?" options to actually communicate with a living person.

I just don't want to be down the road, decide to go back to "ownership" and have to pay full price on some technicality that I was unaware of.

Of course, I half expect one of the answers I am going to see here is, "365 is soon going to be the only option..."😏

Hi Team,
My XPS laptop died and I want to transfer my license to my newly build desktop. "This serial is already in use with another email" error while trying to activate it. I was told to deactivate any that are in use first....
However:
On my account > To deactivate my currently used license under "The following activations with this serial number are in use:"

both fields are listed as "NOT IN USE"

I have the listed serial confirmed as well as my initial confirmed email with the purchased.

Is there anything you can help with?

Former user wrote on 10/14/2022, 5:45 PM

@Jessariah67 I think you may be referring to rollbacks, like when you upgrade and find it is buggy. You may be asking, "May I please 'roll back' to an earlier iteration of Vegas if the latest and greatest has an issue?" Rollbacks could be nice. I don't think 365 has rollbacks, though Magix probably does try to test it.

Former user wrote on 10/14/2022, 6:06 PM

@Former user He may be an adobe user, updates get pushed and silently update in the background, the first you know about it is a notification that blah has been updated. Obviously Vegas isn't like that, updating is a manual process. It probably can be a manual process for Adobe too depending on settings.

@Andrew-Strever please continue in your own thread here https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/using-serial-on-newly-build-desktop--137479/ as your comment above refers to the same problem. You may repost that comment there. Thank you.

Deactivated Movie Studio on old computer. Installed on new computer but have the same problem with the product key being registered to different email. The problem is that I no longer have that email address. And I've lost track of the old password I used when I first registered. At this point, I'm boiling with anger and I would just like to tell Magix is go f*ck themselves!

Because you can't keep up with your passwords? Seems like that's on you, not them. Have you even attempted to reach out to them to see if they can help you change your password? Might work better than just venting angrily at them on a user forum staffed by fellow users, not Magix employees.
