5.1 sound from Sony HDR PJ260VE

Apparently this camera can record 5.1ch sound using it's built in microphone.

I know it won't be up to much but I'd like to make use of it if possible.

so far dragging the mts files to the time line gives the normal stereo track.

Is it possible to extract the 5.1 from this?

Be sure to set your project properties to 5.1 surround sound before you drag the video/audio to the timeline and it should work fine.
