After editing audio track volume how do you group it with the video

wilco-n wrote on 10/1/2024, 7:44 AM

Is there a way to group the audio edits with the video?

Vegas Pro Edit Version 21.0 (Build 315)

Problem:

Some of the audio has to be muted.

I press V and then click on the sound line.

Double clicking on the line at the first point of the edit.

Then again at the last point of the edit.

I add two more points inside of the first so I can pull the volume down to inf.

That works fine.

When I go to move the video because I have cut some video out further long the video and want to move the first section up to the second section with grouping of everything I find that the audio edits don't group and therefore don't move. (The audio moves, not the edits)

Is there a way to make the audio edits stick with the video?

Thanks in advance.

Willy

Make sure the "Lock Envelopes to Events" options is turned on (it's below the timeline):

Tip: you can easily add an volume (or other) automation envelope by selecting a region, then drag the volume line up or down. This is a tremendous time saver instead of adding multiple points one-at-a-time.

This is the procedure rraud is referring to (see the DMT3 comments)

Thanks for the link it really helped an I will use that from now on.

Such a time saver thank you. 1000ms as I am working in 25fps so I figured it could be a little less.

However while it is a great solution to another problem I was having its not the one I also have.

I am trying to slide the entire video right by the amount I edited it by ie removed section of video and want to couple the two sections back together.

I see the audio edits but when I slide the video (after grabbing everything and creating a group) the audio volume settings don't slide along with the video.

I'm sure I'm missing something.

Thanks for the reply. It makes sense what you are saying but I couldn't work out how to use it. When I go to group everything the lock envelopes to events 'unclicks' as I click on the group button.

I'm sure it is simple and I will check youtube and here to see if there is more info. I didn't know what to search on but did true with what I wrote above.

I edited the last post but I don't see the new text or image?

I'll try again.

@wilco-n, "G" will not affect that button. That button simply says: "When you move an event, move any envelope points on that event with it."

In your last post, the one with the red X is the "Selection" option. Pressing "D" will change that to the one you currently have selected just to the right of the red X. The one with the green checkmark is the one I was saying to use.
