All this fuctionality and more is available via the edit boxes in the left of the crop/pan/motion dialog. You can also do fine control while holding down the CTRL key and moving the spinner within the edit box.
Oh wait the up/down arrows do have an effect if you first put your cursor into one of the numerical fields like "X Center" or "Angle" - which is cool no doubt, but I liked to be able to position the crop rectangle by simply clicking it, and then using the up/down/left/right arrow keys.
All they have to do is make the pan/crop square "Selectable" so we can click it and use the arrows to move it. That would not break the new functionality and would keep the KISS functionality we've learned to take for granted.
Here's another one. The tooltips for the icons running down the left side of the Pan/Crop window are gone. I always forget which one is Lock Aspect or Size about Center or whatever. Since they have no labels the only recourse is help/manual/trial-and-error/time wasted.
Let me be blunt--its dumb---Now that proves that I am not what I have often been accused of, a Sonic/Foundry shill with no sense of fairness. By the way, I am not overwhelmed by this version of Vegas. I think that some major issues still remain to be addressed--ie. MEDIA MANAGEMENT and nested sequences--overall, I am underwhelmed!
Dumb, yes. But I can forgive that for the time being. These things happen. I would be happy if it was fixed in 5b.
I don't expect to be overwhelmed by an app like this - I expect it to evolve as a tool - to provide more and more functionality (and ultimately productivity). A release like version 5 just poses the question, is this new functionality worth $200? The answer for me is very much so. A few surprises is a bonus - and those were there too. 3dsMAX releases overwhelm me, but they are a lot more expensive! :D
Good point---I guess I am just disappointed that after over a year, we still have the same media management and lack of nested sequences---I dont get it.
Everyone was probley expecting a "groudbreaking" release like V4 was. But, i've gotta say the new aditions will make some things easier for me once I get the $ to upgrade. :0
You guys are probably right--its been over a year since the last upgrade so expectations were probably high. Dont get me wrong--I will continue to be a happy Vegas user---
Peter's wright (pun intended). Subclips are (at least for the way I work) a HUGE media management improvement. This was one area where Premiere previously cleaned Vegas' clock.
I haven't played with Vegas' implementation yet (waiting for my boxed upgrade), but the description in the new features PDF looks promising.
NO NUDGE in Pan/Crop & Track Motion is BAD! Really Bad! Now how do you do those minor adjustments? Ya know when it's just a hair off. Come Come now... why would you take that option away? Please... just give it back.
