Audio out of sync for some files

I-Mac wrote on 2/3/2026, 10:17 PM

I am having an issue with a few of the files (not all) I imported for an edit - where they will at sudden points have then audio and video become out of sync in the video clipper as well as being stand alone in a project. I doubled checked the mp4 file source they come from and they play without any issue on every media player Windows has so feel safe to say its not an issue with the original files. I've also tried making sure the frame rate for the videos and the project are the same, and tried re-importing the files to see if it was some kind of error originally but neither helped. I am using Vegas pro 23 that is completely up to date on updates as per the update search option (on Windows 11 also completely up to date)

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm losing my mind trying to manually sync intricate audio/videos for every clip I want to add in. This is killing my OCD!

(FAQ) How to post MediaInfo and VEGAS Pro File Properties

Dexcon wrote on 2/4/2026, 6:43 AM

Thank you for uploading the MediaInfo report. I can't be sure but the variable frame rate of the video varies from an incredibly low 0.157 fps (I've never seen such a low frame rate before) to 23.927 fps - maybe the huge dive in fps is the point where the audio loses sync with the video.

Try transcoding the media from Variable Frame Rate (VFR) to Constant Frame Rate (CFR) in a free transcoder such as Handbrake or Shutter Encoder and see if that solves the sync problem. Or you could also transcode to CFR within Vegas Pro 23 by rendering the VFR media via an H.264 or H.265 (or almost any other) render template.

@Dexcon Thanks for the suggestion. I'm trying to render it now with the INTERNET HD 25 FPS (Intel) template - hopefully that fixes things. I'll let you know how it goes and perhaps be back to pick your brain.

I-Mac wrote on 2/4/2026, 6:47 PM

@Dexcon @john_dennis Unfortunately that didn't fix the issue and it still seems to get desynchronized at the same time as before the rendering. I'll put the specs of the rendered template underneath if that helps.

@I-Mac Your MediaInfo says Frame rate : 23.927 FPS, & further down it says 'Streams  - Video: 00:51:50.833, 24.000 fps progressive, 1920x1080x32, AVC'.

If I was trying to recode I'd choose 24fps not 25fps. I'm not saying this is correct or it will fix your problem

Good point. But firstly I'd do what Dexcon suggested and convert the file to 24fps CFR with Shutter Encoder.

I-Mac wrote on 2/4/2026, 9:04 PM

I think I fixed the issue after what Dexcon said; once the FPS was better I could see the lag point where the audio/video desynchronized and was able to manually adjust. Now I'm going to try the same process with the other offending source video to see if it works there.
