Auto 4GB .avi files when rendering.

Randy Stewart mentioned in a reply to a previous post of mine, that in order to break a rendered .avi file into 4GB chunks, all you had to do was to simply put a 1 at the end of the filename when rendering.
I did that, but it still rendered as a single 11.6GB file. WHat am I missing ?
Also, which encoder is the preferred one when rendering .avi's (e.g. ; CinePak, one of the MANY Indeo's, ATI's YUK variation or...) ?

I'm not sure what the "1" is about; it's not necessary. However, the 4GB chunks is the way that rendering deals with the FAT32 file system's 4GB file size limit. If you've successfully rendered an 11.6GB file then you must be using NTFS which doesn't have the limit, and therefore you don't need to use chunks.

Probably the best codec available for AVI is DV. It's broadcast quality, but the files are a bit huge at 225MB/minute.

Yes, I am using NTFS, so that answers that question. And thanks for the info on the codec.
