I found in my system that I have to start the VF / ScreenBlast capture program first, then turn on camera, it sees it then. Tho I don't know why it doesn't see it when cam is turned on first.
But try it anyway.

Didn't work. Movie Maker isn't recognizing the camera either. Camera is a Canon Optura 100MC.

Try booting with the camera plugged in and switched on.

I moved the firewire cable to a different input on my FW card and the camera was detected. Interesting.
