Create Blu-ray discs and DVDs from same material?

I am using Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10.0 and DVD Architect Studio 5.0. I have source video material (multiple programs) up to about two hours each recorded on a Panasonic HC-X900M AVCHD camcorder in 1080 60i. I have successfully edited one of these programs and authored and burned Blu-ray discs from it using the software listed above.

Here’s my question: I want to create BOTH Blu-ray discs AND standard definition DVDs from this material, and I want to do as much as possible of the editing and authoring for both formats in common, rather than redoing the work for each end format. So, what is the best workflow to use to get as much done as possible before splitting into two projects (if necessary) to produce the separate disc formats? I would like not to compromise the quality of either version, of course!

Thanks!

Jon

No problem, with a caveat.
Using the same project, render using either a BluRay or DVD Architect template.

Now, the caveat. Generated media, text, and titles made in the BluRay project may not format acceptably for your DVD render. In these cases, two projects with the appropriate output settings and generated media properties, are recommended.

Thanks, musicvid.

Let me confirm. Are you saying that I should go ahead and burn the video as a Blu-ray to my hard drive, pass the results to DVD Architect Studio, author the disc as I want it to appear, and then, IN DVD ARCHITECT STUDIO, burn the video first as a Blu-ray disc and then as a DVD?

No.

Do not burn your BluRay from Make Movie in Vegas. Do not use a BluRay to burn a DVD. That is an exercise in redundancy.

File->Render As in Vegas is your friend. The templates for BOTH FORMATS are there, follow the instructions on the forums and the Knowledgebase to export to DVD Architect if in doubt.

Your workflows are:
Vegas->BluRay Templates->Render->DVD Architect->BluRay Disc
Vegas->DVD Templates->Render->DVD Architect->DVD Disc

Make Movie is for soccer moms.

Okay, I'm fine with that approach, but I WILL need to do the authoring in DVD Architect twice (once for each format), right?

Yes. One Vegas project (unless you need to adjust gen. media), two renders, two Architect projects.
