GPU Assist

I have just purchased a new GeForce GTX 570 card and was hoping to get some GPU assist. Test rendering of an AVC file showed very little improvement.
Using VegasPro 11 GPU off 5' 06" GPU on 4' 29"
Using VegasPro 12 GPU off 4' 59" GPU on 4' 35"
Also previewing a complex project I get jerky playback in Best Full mode. Not bad in Preview Full but it was always that way.
Needless to say I am disappointed after spending so much on a new card.
PS I am using 301.42 drivers.
Am I missing something?
Thanks
Ross

"Am I missing something?"

We're missing a few things.

What kind of cpu/system did you add the GPU to?

Was your source AVC and/or did you render to a codec that supports GPU render assist like Mainconcept AVC or Sony AVC?

Some people with very fast systems don't get much render boost from the GPU.

We can't comment on Vegas Pro 12 yet.

Ross:
To fully evaluate your situation we need to have a stat on every piece of hardware (specific revision numbers if possible) of your entire system and whether you are rendering to a raid array OR whether your source files and render to direction are on fast and independent drives. All of this is critical.

Because: here's the thing -if your horsepower is heavy on the mechanical and CPU sides of your system - your GPU assist is going to make little difference. There has to be a formula for what is the right balance in a given system build between all those effects contributed by the non-GPU side of the equation versus the effect of adding GPU support.

I am running on an AMD Phenom II X4 955 Processor 3.2 Ghz
6 GB RAM 64 bit Windows 7
I forgot to mention that using VegasPro 12 the text was inverted and backwards when using GPU assist but correct when not using GPU assist. I should report this on he beta site.
Thanks

I forgot to say that I was rendering a short piece of video AVCHD taken with a sony camera. It contained one transition and a title. It was 1920 X 1080 60i and I was rendering to AVC with the same settings.
Thanks

As you signed the NDA you shouldn't be discussing Vegas Pro 12 testing on this forum... only on the Beta Forum.

Yeah, you have violated the terms of the NDA. Non-disclosure Agreement means just that.

God have mercy on you. If you see this post before the thread is totally traced and wiped out by the admin.

Like I said - what is the number nomenclature of your video driver?
What specific ram are you using.
How have you set the processor for threads in use?
etc
