Hardware requirement Vegas 10e for 3D

We do not have a lot of information, what kind of hardware is required for the 3D preview and Vegas 10e. Maybe it is a good idea to build up a list of grafic cards that can be used successfully.

For my 3D preview works fine and with full resolution (preview full) with a Quadro 2000D, running with Win7 64 bit and a i7 2600k 3.4 Ghz. Monitor is a Asus VG236H, that includes the Nvidia 3D vision (not pro) set. I can confirm that the 3D vision (not pro) set works fine with Vegas 10e.

I do not know if the cheaper Quadro 600 works also fine with Vegas 10e (I think so, because I assume that Vegas will need the enhanced drivers but not so much the performance).

I have seen that a non-quadro card (Asus EngTx560 Ti DCII) does NOT work with Vegas for the 3D preview, even if that card has higher preformance compared with the Quadro 2000.

Other experiences with the 3D preview and the required hardware?

I'm not sure if it's worth all the trouble rigging your machine for 3D. It's a lot easier simply sending to an external monitor (an actual 3d TV).

Yes you can do so with using side-by-side with every grafic card, even if that reduces your preview resolution resolution by 50% I think (if you start from a MVC-camcorder like Sonys TD10). But you are right, it can be done - even if then you have to invest to a HDTV that has a hudge size on an editors workplace to my opinion. But you are right, it can be done.

Any other hardware experience?

I'm pretty new at this so I'll apologize up front if I have some stupid questions.

I have Vegas Pro 10 and just bought the HDR-TD10 3D camcorder. There are other issues and questions but my first task is to figure out how to preview in 3D. I am using an Acer HN274H 3D monitor as an "external monitor" for Vegas Pro. Currently my graphics card is a GeForce GTX 260 and I have NVIDIA 3D glasses (not the kit - NVIDIA said I didn't need the kit because the emitter is already in the Acer monitor).

I believe I've tried all the different settings available in project properties, options, and preview device. I can't get a 3D preview in Vegas Pro. Just today I saw the thread about needing a Quadro card. I can get a Quadro FX4600 pretty cheaply if that would help me.

I don't care if I get a 3D preview in the Vegas Pro program window as I'd prefer to use the external monitor for that purpose anyway.

So, am I correctly understanding that I need a Quadro card, period? Or might I be able to use my GeForce card as long as I'm directing the preview to an external monitor? If yes to the latter, can you tell me how?

Thanks very much!

"So, am I correctly understanding that I need a Quadro card, period?"

I'm not sure how that can possibly be the case at all. I don't see how Vegas would know the difference. Vegas is responsible for producing the image... that's all. I suspect that as long as you have the proper 3D hardware (card, monitor, and glasses)... and Vegas is delivering the proper image, then it stands to reason you should get 3D.

For sure you can use your gtx 260 to bring a preview picture to your Acer monitor - BUT if that will be a 3D picture is the question if you use that graphic card, since it is no quadro.

I do not know the technical specifications of your Acer. But since it is not an 3D HDTV, I assume that it will not be able to use a side-by-side input as 3D HDTVs can do.If that is true my understanding is that you would need a quadro.

I have an nVidia 9800GT card (not Quadro) and the 3D preview works fine but only on external preview device and not on the preview window in the program. One other note is that my 3D monitor on that computer is a Samsung 3D DLP and I have to select checkerboard as my 3D mode but that is specific to DLPs.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions. Looks like I'll have to try the Quadro card. It'll take me a week or so to get it but I'll let you know if it works for me. Thanks again.

I think we should see that we have different 3D preview units - as descriped in the English documentation on page 450/451. Here you can read that for "120 Hz displays with shutter glasses, you have to use the "left and right" mode with most graphic cards that support 3D vision für Quadro". So if you run such a 120 Hz display with active shutter glasses and nvidia 3D vision, I understand that you have to use a Quadro.

If you use a 3D-capable HDTV that uses the side-by-side mode, I understand that you will not need a Quadro - this should work for other graphic cards too. If I would use that, I would prefer side by side (full) if possible. That works similar to other modes - e.g. also for checkerboards and DLP bsed monitors.

Anaglyphic you can use every graphic card too, but will have the disadantage of reduced colors.

But for shutter glasses and nvidia 3D vison you have to use a quadro.

Are there any other experiences with hardware configurations, where the 3D preview works?
