High Quality rendering = no go

(using VV 2.0b)

Has anyone tried rendering using the RealVideo8 codec? For
the life of me I cannot get anything to render that looks
remotely like the quality I see on Real.com (I'm even
rendering at 300 Kbps) Things look great in the Preview
widow, but I'm still getting plenty of artifacts and
blurring/smearing when I render.

I'm having similar diffuculty using the ligos MPEG
compression.

Is it my system, or is the RealMedia rendering in VV just
plain not ready for prime time?

There are obviously alot of settings to tweak to get the best results.

Here's a couple of things I have personally found work well for REAL8:

1) Set Vegas project properties to progressive.

2) Use best quality render settings in Vegas.

3) Set your project framerate to the same as your encode frame rate.

4) Use the "Preview in Player" feature frequently- this allows you to
look at possible problem areas and tweak if needed.

5) Use Real's "2 pass" encoding- slower but worth it.

It really is worth considering saving a new, custom version of the
project for each output type (format, bitrate). Different
compressors/compressor settings might like less high-frequency audio,
or perhaps they won't do soft edges well. This stuff can be adjusted
on a case-by-case basis at the project level for optimum results.

It is aboslutely possible to do good looking renders but it WILL take
some tweaking to get the great stuff. You can bet REAL didn't slap up
any old file on their website- somebody took the time to experiment
and optimize the settings for a specific piece of footage.

The templates are a good place to start- fine tune from there.

you mean I have to WORK? where's the magic?? :-)
Ok, I'll start tweaking....thanks for the tips.
