i7-3770 vs Nvidia GTX 6xx - Vegas 12 performance?

I am at the point I need to upgrade my old i7-950, and I have settled on the i7-3770 processor. I don't know what to do about the graphics card, so I am wondering if anyone has any opinions (or better yet, experience(!)) on whether a GPU actually can improve render/preview speed results over this very fast CPU.

With V12, my i7-950 gets a 20% render boost from a GTX 560ti for MC MP4 renders using the CUDA option.

But before I spent $600 to get a graphics card that would boost results from the 3770, I would probably jump to the six core 3930.

I'm running an i7-3770k (see system specs) and a trial of Vegas Pro 12 at the moment. If you want to define a set of media, project and render templates, I'll share my results.

Anecdotal:
I recorded the Presidential Debates from PBS at 720-60p and NBC at 1080-60i. Using the on-die HD4000 video adapter and QuickSync (Auto from the render template) the 720-60p finished the two hours in slightly less than real time. It looks like the 1080-60i is going to take about 5 hours for the 2 hour program.

I tried rendering CPU only for the 1080i media, but the early estimate was significantly slower.

In each case the codec was the Sony AVC for Blu-ray.

Thanks for the information. I am interested in 1080p VBR with a max of 24Mbit and a min of 12Mbit. I have always used the MC, but the Sony AVC would also be interesting.

Anecdotal: (continued)

My 1080-60i render failed at 85%. I haven't had a chance to do problem source identification, yet.

I am now rendering a Landau Eugene Murphy show that I recorded locally with 4 cams, I am rendering in the sony AVC template 1080 60i Bluray, show is 1Hr 28Minutes and with color corrections and pro titler additions Vegas 12 is showing a little over 3 1/2 hours of render time is needed, I have a GTX 670 along with my i7 920 2.67Ghz processor....
