Install SVMS Question

ellentk wrote on 8/15/2012, 5:13 PM
Before installing SVMS 12, I clicked Win7's Uninstall to remove version. 11.But it left lots of files and quite a few registry entries on my system. Can/should I manually uninstall either the files and/or registry entries before installing v. 12?

The files left behind are:
VMSHDP/audio hardware drivers
VMSHDP/File IO Plugins

Your new version will install seamlessly over your old; no need to remove it. But since you did, just leave things the way they are and install the new one.

It leaves the driver and plugin folders so you don't have to reinstall them.

Not the best choice of word, but the point is the same, you can have both (or multiple) versions on your PC, no need to uninstall them.

However, if you do want to uninstall the previous version to clear up disk space along with getting rid of all registry entries giving you a completely clean install, then download a small free app called CCleaner from here http://www.piriform.com/CCLEANER
Once installed click on the registry tab followed by run. This will completely clean up your registry of everything. Don't worry, you'll be asked if you want to make a backup of the registry first. I've been using it for years now without any complaint whatsoever and have yet to revert to a backup.

Thanks for the explanations and recommendations! Very helpful.

I installed 12 and all went fine.

I have another question though. It's supposed to be 64 bit and I have win7 pro.
But 12 is in my x86 programs folder. What's going on?

Ellen,
are you sure you did not install the 32-bit version? MSP 12 has both 32-bit and 64-bit available.

Yes, that was it. Duh!

Confusion understandable. I've got a brand new machine (W7/64) and I've got bits and pieces everywhere. I appears that certain parts of multi-element applications are 32bit whilst others are 64bit. I've got a lot of Adobe folders in an Adobe x86 folder even though the app itself (Photoshop CS6) is 64 bit and is running just fine. Same goes for Sony - VMS is installed in the 64 bit folder as it should whilst DVDA, SF and Shared Plug-ins are installed in the x84 folder.
