Low Memory

OhMyGosh wrote on 8/27/2012, 11:14 AM
I have 35 minutes of HD footage. Went to render as 720x480 mpg2 for a DVD. Got a not enough memory message right off the bat. Found that to be true, as my temp folder was on the C drive which is solid state and never big enough (don't ever buy one like that) so I made a new folder on the D drive which has over 310 Gigs available. Rendered for just over an hour, with minutes to go I got the low memory message again and the 'new' red screen of death in the preview window (anyone else get that red screen?). I have 6 Gigs of RAM and a second generation i7. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Cin
PS. I had no other programs running.

How much free, defragmented space is on your C drive?

It could be that, even with your directing scratch disc space to your D drive, the program is choking trying to downsample that HD video to standard def.

Thank you for your reply Steve. I have 2.61 Gigs on the C drive. That's why it wouldn't even let me begin before, so I changed the temp folder to the D drive, but it gave up the ghost right at the end......... Cin

Even if you have your scratch discs or paging files set to another drive, your programs need room to open up on your C drive.

My guess is that if you can clear off at least 20 gigs of space on your C drive, you'll see improved performance all around.

There are few things that can muck up a computer's performance like a nearly full hard drive.

Thanks again for the reply Steve. I've tried to clear the C drive before and jacked up my computer. Don't even want to tell you of all the error messages I get when I boot up.............. broken links, missing programs, faceless icons, etc. I will create a restore point (which I didn't do before) and hack around some more to see what I can do, but having those two drives with the primary C sooo much smaller than the D has been nothing but one huge pain in the rear! Some day if I ever have any spare time, I will have to probably try and reinstall Windows, but with all my progams, it usually takes about a week to get it all back up to date. Thanks again, and I'll let you know if it works. Cin
