Low memory error when rendering

I'm using Vegas Platinum 11. Windows XP 32bit

I am trying to Render a 5 minute 6 mp promo as a WMV file and I keep getting a "memory low error. Close other applications." Thing is, I don't have anything else running. I read somewhere that some formats don't like a lot of clips, which I do have, but if true, that seems like a pretty serious shortcoming. I can create an MOV but it doesn't look or sound very good. This was working before. Why all of a sudden can't I create a finished video that looks the way I want?

Also, Vegas crashes a lot. There is no warning and it just disappears off my screen. I have to save after every edit.

Well, unless you've got lots of stuff on your TL that is using up a lot of memory and the encoder can't fit everything because of the 3.whatever GB memory limit on 32-bit systems.

Last project I did I couldn't render ~28 seconds w/o hitting that limit. More tracks + FX + events, etc. = more RAM just to encode.

The solution may be to just render your project to an uncompressed AVI and encode that to the format you want. That's what I normally do because it's cheaper then buying Win 7-64. :D
