Missing VEGAS Audio Effects

Hello. I've recently changed to a new PC, also changed to Windows 11 from Windows 10, as well as was trying to go from Vegas Pro 18 to 22.

After installing Vegas Pro 22 on the new PC and trying to import my big projects, I noticed all the basic audio effects like reverb, vibrato, distortion, etc. got wiped. Turns out that they just aren't in Vegas anymore, at all. Frustrated, I installed Vegas Pro 18. But turns out, even after that, the audio effects still were missing.

So it turns out the fault lies somewhere else than just the newer version of Vegas Pro. I even tried copying the files from the old PC to the new one from these folders:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3

C:\Program Files\VSTPlugins

C:\Program Files\Steinberg\VSTPlugins

C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST2

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Steinberg\VST2

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steinberg\VstPlugins

But nothing worked. I have no clue what's going on. Any assistance greatly appreciated.

Your Steinberg effects (not part of Vegas) probably need to have their installer run on your new machine. And then you might have to examine in Vegas: [Options] -> Preferences -> [VST] to get the Steinberg folders listed so they can be scanned in Vegas.

Last changed by bvideo on 3/11/2025, 12:13 PM, changed a total of 2 times.

Dedicated: Vegas 20, 21, & 22, i7 8700k (UHD 630), 32 gig ram, ssd & 2 spinning units.

General purpose: i5 11400 (UHD 730), 32 gigs, ssd, 1 spinning unit (Vegas 21 & 22)

After extensive research, I figured out that these are probably not a part of the Vegas installation. However, I am also not sure these are specifically 'Steinberg' effects. I just copied that as a good measure, because it had something to do with Vegas on my previous PC. What I meant are exactly effects like Amplitude Modulation, Chorus, Distortion, Dither, Graphic Dynamics, Graphics EQ, Track EQ, Reverb, Vibrato, Volume and so on...

After hours of research, I figured out that these are some old DirectX XFX1, XFX2, XFX3 effects. This is how their UI and "help" page tab looks like:

I have no idea what they are, how they found their way onto my old PC, nor where I should download them from now to get them on my new PC. But I do need those.

I also don't understand why every tutorial I see online has these exact, basic effects, while I don't (well, at least now I don't).

They (xfx..) might have come from a old Sony product, Sound Forge, Acid, or old Vegas.

The XFX1, XFX2, XFX3 effects plug-ins are Direct X and have been included with Sound Forge for as long as I can recall (for instance 'Track EQ' and 'Track Compressor', ect.) If you install Sound Forge, the Sound Forge FX packs should be available in Vegas. The Fx 1, 2 and 3 can also be downloaded fro the Sony achieves, Hundreds of free plug-ins are available as well,. search the web. Some are very good,.. others not so (sound and/or UI).
If you have some third-party 32bit VST-2 plug-ins, you have to enable that format in Vegas' "Options> Preferences> Audio" and specify the pertinent VST search folders as well in Options> Preferences> VST Effects", DX plugs do not need to be 'search folder' enabled like VSTs.

Thank You so much. Installing Sound Forge fixed everything. However I still do wonder why these effects were on my previous PC, I never had Forge installed there.

But regardless, thank You very much.
