H265/HEVC was released a few years after Movie Studio 13.

It is not backwards compatible, sorry.

You can download the MSP16 trial, or you can send your file to Handbrake and render x265.

I don't think you can do that with VMS, only Pro?

I was unclear.

Option 1: Movie Studio Platinum 16 opens and saves HEVC/h265, correct?

Option 2: One can also render an intermediate in any version of Movie Studio and open it in a third party encoder that outputs x265.
