New Canon sx500 with 25p output. Better for Vegas?

OK, 25p output, not 1920 but 1280 (?)

But it has the new Digic Chip 4 series and has an enormous 30x optical.

I like the idea of not needing to futz-about with 24p and 50i. The 25p should slot nicely into my 50i output - yes?

Too excited.

Aside from the caveats about using still cameras to shoot video, yes.

It seems to only shoot 720p but really, for most things, 720p is more than adequate.

Thanks Bob.

I just did a search today and found that this 500 was released just days ago and having played with some 24p into my 50i projects I thought that this'un would stop me needing to futz about with the fps stuff.

Agreed on the still <> video cammie thing, but there again my main workhorse remains my Canon XF300. I wanted to have an easy peasy large zoomer that could be whipped out to do some walkie piccies, without my partner needing to wait for me and my big XF to catch her up!

This is near. I'm going to get some store shot 720p just to see if I can live with it.

It comes with stereo !?!? How do they do that?

Cheers

Probably the same as my RX100. Two really tiny holes for microphones on the top of the body of the camera. Needless to say those microphines on the RX100 sound, well to use a local expression, "a billgoat ****ing in a tin". Thankfully I took along my Zoom H1n.

One other thing to check out is how much light that 30x zoom looses at max focal length. Even the 3x zoom on the RX100 drops a couple of stops. Fortunately the big sensor saves the dayfor the RX100. Oh and another thing, how long will it record for, the RX100 stopped on me at 29 minutes.

All that said, I'm quite impressed with the video from the RX100. there are serious limitations and many are just the result of the camera being so small.

Now a couple of days ago I did see a nice point and shoot rig, a Sony NEX-7 being used with Zeiss CP2 primes, wowsers. Hard to see the camera behind the lens!

The SX500 is far too tiddly for me . . .

Re-reviewing the sx40.
