New Sony or Vegas Forum

To the Forum Op,

Could we get a forum that is better optimized for Phone and tablet displays? I am not talking about some app to download that no one will use. I am talking about just simple reworking of the forum CSS to allow for better display on portable devices?

Pinch zooming is rubbish. On my 720p phone you have to pinch zoom and then scroll across posts just to get a text size that is legible. On my Galaxy Tab S the view is as good as a desktop browser, so I guess these changes would be for devices below this size.

Just a thought.

The Santanic Kingdom will have to freeze over first.

+1 all of you.

And if for any reason Vegas is continued and no longer supported, please don't ever ever ever ever delete this forum. My life would collapse without it.

I wouldn't hold my breath. This forum has not changed one bit in at least a decade and SCS has made it pretty clear that it is not a high priority. In fact there was talk at one point at shutting it down all together.

Just an observation, but it appears overall forum usage has slipped in the last couple of years anyway.

I am certain that BBS and forum usage in general has waned, due to Facebook and other social media. However, FB groups (as I'm sure all of you know) pale in comparison to a threaded forum of any quality.

A financial forum that I'm a member of recently shut down with no advance notice. There were years of posts lost. Thousands. Maybe millions. The decision was made because of old, antiquated forum software. (Fuse? Fusetalk? Something like that) They chose to start a new FB group instead of attempting to port anything over.

There were, as you can imagine, a boat load of very unhappy people. Shame if it ever happens here.

"This forum has not changed one bit in at least a decade"

Well, to be fair, there was the change to the way the already read / replied to posts were displayed in the lists, and then the change most of the way back to the way it used to be. That happened over the last 6 months.

If they would make one single simple change of allowing the width of the forum display to match the width of the browser window that would be an amazing improvement. That alone would allow it to work out well on most screens. It would probably be as easy as changing some place in the CSS that says "800px" to "95%".

Or even better link up with one of those forum reading apps (Tapatalk?) I've been wondering about this for a few years now! Thanks for bringing it up.

And I would think it is in SCS best interest also to do so since Google is now favoring responsive (i.e., mobile friendly) websites over fixed width sites in their search placement.

I'm not following this. When I go to the Forum on my smartphone, the text is all teeny-tiny, far too small to read. But I double-tap the screen, and the posts are re-formatted to a readable-sized text and re-flowed to fit my smartphone screen.

Isn't this the way that all smartphone browsers work?

No. My iPhone only allows the very FIRST post to be treated this way, all the rest of the Thread is removed. However, the COW Forum is much better.

I wonder if WebSite eXtractor would back this whole forum up for offline use, and how big it would be. Just in case...
