Newblue Titler Pro 7 -- is it worth $99?

fifonik wrote on 10/13/2021, 2:22 AM

I have basic requirements for titles and using depreceted ProType Titler.

Used to use Newblue Titler Pro v1 long time ago that came with my first VMS Platinum. It was fine.

So, a few questions about the newer Newblue Titler Pro 7 (that is on special ATM):

- Is it stable with VP?

- Is it usable? I installed trial and it was not easy to use for me (text is too small, workflow is complicated. But I have not read manual or watched tutorials)

Thanks.

"Newblue Titler Pro 7 -- is it worth $99?" - No. I don't use it anymore. My route has been from NBTP2 >> NBTP7. NBTP7 has flaws, that aren't being rectified. To me, this means that support is none existent, and, support for me goes hand-in-hand with working software. No support and a wrecked GUI, I've gone back to NBTP5, marvelous! I know others hereabouts who've gone to NBTB6 instead. $99? Huge discount! Gotta think why?

@fifonik - Can you get a DEMO? I strongly advise you do.

@fifonik  ... you might want to do a forum search for NB Titler Pro 7 as there have been many comments about it, a recent thread being:

https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/newblue-titler-pro-7-anyone-using-this-with-vegas--130011/#ca808336

The latest build of TP7 - 210922 - unfortunately still has the lag problem.

But, at $99, that is an excellent price - but with one caveat. Is TP7 on sale at a 'run-out' price because TP8 is soon to be released? If so, it would then be unlikely that there would be any further development/fixes in TP7 including the lag problem. It's a possibility because TP7 was released in August 2019, just over 2 years ago.

EDIT: But one advantage of getting TP7 at $99 is that you'd likely get upgrade pricing for TP8 if and when TP8 is released.

@fifonik I've been using TP7 since it came out 2 years ago and I wouldn't be without it. Sure, it has its flaws, but what software hasn't. Fortunately, these flaws don't make it unusable. The two most redeeming features of TP7, in my opinion, are:-

1) The ability to change part of a title design and have all titles on the timeline, with that shared design, update automatically. That, to me, is a massive time saver.
2) The ability to change the length of an individual title and not have to worry that transition lengths I've set for that title will change as a result.

As @Dexcon says, $99 is an excellent price, but I think that's because of the bad press TP7 has had and not because TP8 is imminent. I could be wrong, but I don't think they could pack any more features into it than what they have in TP7. I would go for it if I didn't have it already.

BTW, (advert coming) I've done many tutorials on YouTube about TP7. 'Veteran Video Editor' is my channel name if you're interested.

An advantage of NBFX's Titler Pro that I don't recall having been mentioned on the forum before is that Titler Pro accepts both PostScript and TrueType fonts (.ttf) whereas BorisFX's Title Studio accepts TrueType fonts but not PostScript fonts. And there are some great free PostScript fonts out there.

@Grazie  ... Yes. Very much so. But it would be shameful if we have to buy an update to get inherent problems in TP7 fixed. As you'll see in the link that I gave above, NBFX intended to investigate and solve the lag problem in TP7 - and I did respond with the requested information at the time. An exception to this is if they've had to substantially recode the program to get it back to where it was back in TP5 before it was 'tricked up'.

@fifonik NB Titler 7 also allows you to post-edit captures from VEGAS Stream, including each title, transition, L3rd, etc. It can be a bit tricky at times, but it works well once you have an established workflow.

jetdv wrote on 10/13/2021, 9:01 AM

The short answer is: Yes it is worth the $99 to purchase this version. Yes, it will work fine in all current versions of VEGAS Pro. Are there a few issues? Yes. But I do use it in my projects. For titles, I tend to create a smaller project with the title and then render out that section. When I do the main project, I then just import the title render at the beginning. I prefer doing things in smaller "chunks" and then combine them all at the end.

I had NB Titler 7 for a couple of years and never really got into it until I saw some YouTube tutorials on using it with Vegas by Veteran Video Editor, then it clicked and now I use it fair bit. The first in the series 'Tutorial 01 - Titler Pro 7 - Calming the anger and relieving the frustration' kind of sums it up but I would say it is definately worth $99.

@paul-marshall I am 'Veteran Video Editor'. Thanks for your positive comment. That video, my first, highlighted the major change that NewBlue made to the title saving mechanism. When I got to grips with it, after using TP6, I made the video to reassure the many frustrated users that the new mechanism wasn't all that bad. The new builds of TP7 have sort of reversed that mechanism. It's similar to the title saving mechanism of TP6, but allows you to specify a folder location where title and caching files get saved automatically.

That video, my first, highlighted the major change that NewBlue made to the title saving mechanism.

I wasn't really aware of those changes but for me I couldn't get my head around multi-title management in VP projects so I needed to learn the saving and title sharing process. The NB tutorials dont explain that at all well so thanks for that. I was used in VP to using Titles & Text and just copying, pasting and editing one title to make another. That approach in TP7 got me into a total mess! Also I was opening then closing TP7 for each title. The big thing I learnt is to open TP7 once and leave it open alongside VP until I'm done.
It is a powerful title editor but needs careful and methodical management of files and design sharing.
