Anyone having trouble with firewire connectors on their cameras? Two Panasonic NV-GS150s seem to be faulty from new and now I have three cables and my digi8 intermittent. Any cables better than others?
Thanks Brian
I don't like the 4 pin mini they put on prosumer cameras. 6 pin should be
a better choice. I can't say any cable is better. I think the problem is the small
connector and soldering "surface mount" on the circuit boards.
I had a bad Firewire cable that had an intermittent connection at the 4-pin side. It was about 5 years old.
There are some purists on various Boards that swear you need to boot the PC with a camera turned on or else you fry the camera, but with all the various firewire-connected Sonys I've used over the past 7 years I've never seen that problem.
I've never fried anything either but with the manufacturers saying they will not cover such things under warranty I'm being more careful. The best firewire cables we've found are sold in Sony shops, they are expensive but are very flexible and the 4 pin headshells don't part company with the cable. Money well spent.
I try to get things cabled so I rarely have to move firewire cables, one advantage of not using a camera as a VCR.
