Out of Memory

garyslens wrote on 5/21/2019, 8:32 PM

I'm using Movie Studio 16 platinum (32 bit) on a 64 bit system with 32Gig of memory and I keep getting out of memory errors with the program when trying to do a simple re-render of a 1080p file down to a 720p mpg4 (for DVD). I suspect that it is because it is a 32 bit program and I'm running other programs at the same time (as it renders) including photoshop. Is there a 64 bit version of the application, or is there a fix to stop it from running out of memory when there's 16 Gig just sitting there waiting to be used?

Uh, Movie Studio Platinum 16 "is Only 64-Bit". Has been for a few versions now, especially once the Vegas Product line was acquired by Magix from Sony in 2016.

If the program is listed in: c:\Program Files\Vegas\Movie Studio Platinum 16.0\..., it is definitely 64-Bit.

Now, if yours is not listed there, which you should have got the Download Installer from the Magix site, including viewing the specifications listed on the Movie Studio site, would also say it is for 64-bit Operating Systems. So, you either did not get a valid and verified download installer, tried to use an "Patch Update" file from someone, or perhaps acquired the program on a "not so legitimate" site (or the big YouTube thing where they won't stop people from uploading videos on where to get the various files on Torrent sites along with illegal crack algorithms).

Additionally, if you are trying to "Create" a "Menu Based" DVD from your files, then 720p MP4 is an incorrect resolution and format. If you are only trying to create a DATA DVD, then check your discs, the actual file size of your MP4, as well as the Bit Rate (you can use MediaInfo to get the information on your rendered file).

Thanks Chief24 - you are right, it must be 64bit as it is in that folder - so perhaps I was going down the wrong trail trying to figure it out. Regardless of whether it's the right type of file or not, I'm still getting this error that I don't think I should be - "An error occured while creating media file SE D1 03...The system is low on memory. You may be able to reduce memory usage by closing other applications."

My system is running 32Gig of memory and Task Manager is only reporting 13Gig in use. So why is the program out of memory?

As an update - because I don't want to leave the thread hanging (I appreciate your efforts and notes); I followed a number of the directions in the FAQ, and didn't get the error again, however it did skip parts of the video in the final rendering - very disappointing! In the end, I gave up and went with another program 😔.
