problem storing to ext. harddrive

ok, here goes: I have a project that I'm working on, and I managed to store everything onto my external hard drive just fine... except the 6.99 gig clip of dv that I captured. I get a pop up saying that theres not sufficient space on the ext. drive, but there's tons of it! It then offers to clean up the trash, but that too is empty. Any suggestions?

Maybe your external hard drive is partitioned as FAT32? FAT32 only supports a max file size of 4 GB.

If that is the problem, you will have to convert that drive to NTFS.

Yes, I think it is. How would I convert to NTFS? Thank you!

Look here -> http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;307881

Remember, once you convert to NTFS you can't go back (without buying a third party partitioning program). Also, keep in mind older OS's (i.e., Win 9x) can't read drives formated using NTFS.
