Render Times in VMS12

Ok, for me its signficanly fast. I to test some more but something I was getting 3 to 1 on is now 1 to 1. My system is an AMD 6 core and 16 Gigs of ram. When I get some more time I'll do someother projects.

On a fairly complex 3:15 video 11 took about 11 1/2 minutes on my machine, 12 took 2:55. Wow.

What is your source and rendered footage?

combination of 1920 x 1080I and large stills, rendered to 1080P 24.

I assume 64 bit....

Do you think it is just the move to native 64 bit that helped the render?

Is the real time preview any better as well?

On my machine VMS12 is significantly better in both rendering and display. While I'm using a ATI 55XX with 1 gig on memory, GPU seems to be very, very fast as does the Best quality on preview.

Rendering has dropped from a 1:3 time ratio to a 1:1 ratio for the tests I've done (second test is 1080i 60 to 720 30 FPS with color correction and medium sharpening.

There is also a "feel" of fastness, I was using the ProDad Vista sceen runs much faster and smoother. I can say on my system 12 is significanlty faster than 11. I left 11 on my computer for the NewBlue stuff that comes in the production suite, but I'm very happy with 12 at this point in time.

32 bit Vista on C2D 2.66 GHz, 4 GB RAM, GT240 videocard...

Took a 1:15 min project. All 1920x1080 60i .m2ts files. Have crossfades and 1 NewBlue transition (Open FX). I rendered this to Sony AVC; 1920x1080 60i template. Rendering by CPU & GPU. All parameters were identical in both renders.

V11: 7 min 22 s
V12: 7 min 25 s

File sizes also almost identical.

It is likely a 64 bit app on a 64 bit system that is driving the new performance.

Please PC Pro review.

They are seeing tremendous performance acceleration using 64 bit hardware and GPU acceleration.

They also confirm what I have seen even on 32 bit Vista that stability seems to be suffering with the reliance on the GPU.

At the risk of cross-posting in this forum I'll just add my initial findings:

I upgraded from v11 to v12 last night and before I did, I timed the rendering of a moderately heavy project in v11 to see if the upgrade to v12 would shave any time off.

The source was AVCHD from a Sony camcorder, rendered to .mt2s, ready for uploading to Youtube. There were 5 video tracks and 5 audio tracks.

Having timed the v11 render I then uninstalled it and installed v12. I then retried the rendering using the same project. The time differences were dramatic:

v11: 35m 20s
v12: 6m 40s

So, I'm very happy so far. I haven't tried any other output format yet. Time will tell.
Andy.
