Render Times Test and Settings V.12

I had far too much time on my hands yesterday so decided to test the different rendering settings of the new Movie Studio Platinum 12.0.

The below tests are hardly scientific, but I used the exact same 1.22-minute HD video to render (quite complex with plenty of different clips etc), changed the Dynamic Threads and RAM then closed MSP 12 down before reopening it to render under the new settings.

I rendered using two different formats: AVCHD 1920x1080-60i with Best and Use GPU if available and WMV 8Mbps HD 1080-30p changing quality to 100 and best. I also ran one test using Vegas Movie Studio HD 11 just to compare.

Dynamic RAM: 1888 (max 15,242)
Threads: 8 (max 16)
.MTS2: 04.39
.WMV: 05.06

Dynamic RAM: 1888
Threads: 16
.MTS2: 04.33
.WMV: 05.05

Dynamic RAM: 1888
Threads: 4
.MTS2: 04.37
.WMV: 05.11

Dynamic RAM: 8888
Threads: 8
.MTS2: 06.21
.WMV: 06.21

Dynamic RAM: 8888
Threads: 16
.MTS2: 06.10
.WMV: 06.30

Dynamic RAM: 8888
Threads: 4
.MTS2: 06.15
.WMV: 06.47

Dynamic RAM: 888
Threads: 16
.MTS2: 04.31
.WMV: 05.09

Dynamic RAM: 488
Threads: 16
.MTS2: 04.29
.MP4: 04.32
.AVI: 02.XX (pointless as the file size is too large)

Vegas Movie Studio HD 11
Dynamic RAM: 488 (max 1024)
Threads: 4 (max 4)
.MTS2: 05.43

Nothing really surprised me here. At first the 11 looked like it was going to take 19 minutes but then that reduced quickly as it got going. The 12 also started out at times with 9 minutes to go but that always reduced to the numbers you see above.

Thanks for sharing your findings. I think the thing that surprises me most is that v12 isn't faster (based upon my findings), but I guess that may be a hardware thing (GPU compatibility, etc).
