I assume that is under MagixAVC? If you have an Intel iGPU or GPU it will give a fast render but assess the quality against the CPU only Mainconcept or NVIDIA NVENC or AMD VCE if those are options for you as the quality may be the worst of the three.

You can also take a look at Voukoder Classic. Its quite a versatile and faster rendering option. Experiment with it until you become familiar..... https://www.voukoder.org/forum/thread/783-downloads-instructions/

Should I use this when rendering a video project?

You can, assuming the project is destined for YouTube or other on-line streaming.
There are other native encoder/codec options as well for streaming, already in Vegas .. for instance, the Sony AVC and the MainConcept AVC.
The aforementioned third-party Voukoder is highly regarded by many Vegas users.

@Cliff-Colreavy If your project settings match your media, then choosing one of the render presets with an equals sign = next to it will render with the least conversion effort. MainConcept uses cpu which may maximize quality but others like Qsv use a gpu and are usually quicker. Voukoder has deeper layers of menus before you choose the render specifics and has x264 instead of MainConcept employing the cpu for better quality more slowly.

To expand a bit on @rraud's good advice, consider what the Intel QSV hardware encoder was designed for.

Pros:

  • Fast Encoding

Cons:

  • Larger Files
  • Less Quality
  • Fewer Options

-- On the other hand, the AVC Software Encoders, including Mainconcept, Sony, and x264 offer --

Pros:

  • Better Quality
  • Smaller Files
  • Faster Uploads to Youtube

Cons:

  • Slower Encoding Times
