The catastrophic memory leak in (VP15 Suite)

alexander-nNevis wrote on 10/13/2017, 8:05 AM

A catastrophic memory leak occurs when you use the "Sapphire render" plugin. This happens when using any video formats and any encoders. 64 GB RAM is enough for 5 minutes of rendering 1080p video. Then there is the collapse of "VP15". When you enable "GPU acceleration via GTX 1080", collapse occurs even faster, as soon as the 8GB memory card. Moreover, the used memory is not returned after a successful rendering process. It's awful! I can't complete any project!
A similar problem was described here https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/xavc-l-loading-problem-v14--103623/ but not solved. As it turned out, the problem is much more serious and not related to a specific video format or encoder.

Please submit a support request at https://support2.magix.com/customer/en/vegas/form , including as much detailed information about the problem as you can. That's the best way to draw the developers' attention to bugs and get them into their backlog.

@alexander-nNevis, what version of Sapphire Render unit do you use there ?

Put one FX, then look for 'Help' button on the bottom of FX control.

You should find Sapphire Plug-ins for Vegas: v10.??

Sapphire Render Plug-ins version:

I see that the problem is old, and not yet resolved. But the problem is compounded by the fact that VP15 doesn't return memory until the program is closed. https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/vp-14-win10-out-of-memory-problem--103767/

I'm surprised I never noticed this before. It seems to me that the problem appeared recently.

What I did recently?

1. Installed "Microsoft NET 4.7" and two updates for it.(Previously was version 4.62).

2. Installed the latest nVidia graphics driver 387.92 for my GTX 1080.

Now I want to test how memory is used by other plugins.

I've just checked most of the available in "VP15 Suite" of plugins.

In my case the memory leak starts when you start rendering video using any plugin from "Sapphire Render".

The use of any other plugins are included in the "Vegas Suite Pro 15" does not cause memory leaks.

Have you contacted Boris / Genarts for support for these plug-ins? Might be interesting to see what they have to say.

They question is who’s at fault. The host application or the plug in?

Yeah, good question. I tried selecting the Check for Sapphire OFX Updates in Start/All programs with this result:

james-ollick wrote on 10/18/2017, 1:14 PM

You need to download the full Sapphire 10.12 package for your OS and install it, after you put in the serial number (key code) it will ask if you want to remove all the unlicensed units, just say yes and you will be left with the unit that came with VP15 Suite. https://borisfx.com/downloads/?

Remember, you must be registered on the site, to be able to download the package. Note that the package version 11 requires a purchase, but the package version 10.12 is free for VP15 owners.

I am having the problem with Sapphire in Vegas 15. It works flawlessly in Sony Vegas 13 but ties up the CPU and Memory whenever I try to use it on any timeline in Vegas Pro 15, even a timeline with only this effect on it. One of the draws for me to update to Vegas 15 was the inclusion of Sapphire Render Unit as I already use Continuum Complete and other Boris products. I updated to the latest version 10.12 but that did not change anything. All of my drivers are updated, using a Geforce 820M GPU on an HP laptop, i5-4210u, 16 GB RAM, Windows 10, version 1709. I see that this was resolved here but the resolution did not fix my problem.

Been seeing a memory leak issue with Vegas Pro 15 v261 which appears to be related to GPU acceleration. Have many GH4 4k video clips on two layers with Track FX/Event FX along with a title layer/watermark layer/motionbug layer, have tried with/without the so4compound.dll, but whether just working in the timeline or trying to render out a segment, Windows Task Manager shows memory utilization hitting 95-98% with an eventual out of memory error or Vegas just freezes. However, Vegas memory allocation decreases as system memory utilization hits max - most likely due to OS trying to recover RAM space. Turn off GPU acceleration in Vegas and the memory leak does not appear to occur - but also renders a lot slower due to none of the FX being able to run with GPU assist. Just upgraded this system to Ryzen 7 1700, 16GB RAM, R9 390 GPU. Quite disappointed by the current state of VP 15, but hoping it gets better...really, really soon.

I think we have same memory leak issue in VP16. Memory usage goes up until Vegas crashes. Any ideas? VP16 @ ASUS ROG G750 notebook with geforce 765gtx. Everything works great except this memory leak issue (((

Pashi wrote on 9/21/2018, 4:28 PM

And yes, I confirm that with GPU Acceleration off there is no memory leaks. So maybe add this to known issues?

@Pashi Which version of the Sapphire Render plugins are you using? Note the solution above.

Not using them. Using VP16 + FilmConvert + ProDad Mercalli + Vegas LUT plugin + Waves VSTfx
