From the write-ups I read on the internet, Ulead VideoFactory 2 was ahead of the rest, so I bought it. My burner came with Sonic MyDVD. Haven't tried it, but it loks sort of plain-Jane beside Ulead.

I am one of the people who often recommend Ulead DVD MovieFactory 2. I now use DVD Architect but I used DVD MF for about a year before that and think its well worth the money ($45) for what it does. Some people prefer DVD Complete ($99) because it can make DVD’s with Hollywood style layouts for scene selection and special features. It all depends on what your needs are. Both have 30-day trials so you should try them both a see which one you like better.

Can someone tell me how to convert my DVD MPEG2 format to SVCD format with ULEAD. I tried the batch convert setting in SVCD and MPEG2 and when I goto to burn the SVCD with ULEAD, ULEAD tells me the file is the wrong format....

You must have DVD MF1. It has a known bug in the SVCD template. You have to go into the template manager and edit it and change the video encoding from SVCD to just plain MPEG-2 (if I remember correctly). Or just upgrade to DVD MF2. I thought the upgrade was well worth the money because DVD MF2 also does slide shows of still images so I could put all my digital pics on VCD with just a few clicks.

I don’t think you will be happy converting a DVD MPEG2 file to SVCD. You really want to convert the original DV footage.

jr -

Have you figured a way for DVD MF2 to make non-compliant VCD's (Xvcd) and SVCD's (X-SVCD)? The trial version seems to *insist* on re-encoding mpeg files which are not EXACTLY compliant. In MF1 (which I continue to use for this reason), a pop-up would come up (with non-compliant files) and ask if you wanted to make and XVCD or XSVCD.

No I haven’t. That is one of the two drawbacks with DVD MF2. It no longer lets you make a XVCD/XSVCD’s and it no longer lets you make a VCD/SVCD/DVD with just a main chapter menu. It forces you to make a main menu with one movie and then a secondary menu with the chapters. You can make an SVCD template with a higher bitrate but the bitrate on the VCD template is locked.

Thanks - That's what I thought - for a while I thought I was was missing a setting somewhere. I also noticed that if you have your audio sampled at 48K instead of 44.1K, it will insist on re-encoding SVCD's. BTW - nice website you have with lots of good tips/info.

Thanks. I started collecting these tips on my hard drive for myself and then realized that there were probably other people who could benefit from them too. I’m glad you found it helpful.

My apologies for putting this question on this board but im at my wits end with ULead DVD Workshop. I'll try to make this as short as possible, but please do read carefully if you can help:

1. I exported a project from Premier 6.0 using a plugin called "Video Server" for Premier.

2. I encoded the file using TMPGEnc 2.5 as suggested by another forum. This was a mess. First it wanted to create two output files, one called .m2v and the other a .wav file. Finally I finally figured out how to get it to create a single .mpg output file.

3. I tested that file thoroughly on my computer and in Ulead DVD Workshop and it had both sound and video perfectly. When I burned it to a DVD and played it on my DVD player, all I got was video. No sound.

Now, I realize this is more complicated than just the info I've provided above, but Im hoping someone can provide some insight. I'm at my wits end with this, as I've been trying to finish this project for nearly 6 weeks. Why would the sound and video be fine in ULEAD but there be zero sound on the disc?

Thanks

Do you have the Video Factory software with MP2 encoder?
How about export .AVI from Premier and then use VF to render a MPG2

Then take that file to ULEAD for DVD creation.

I use VF and ULEAD and have never had a problem.

Another thing to try is to export .AVI from Premier and then let ULEAD render that .AVI file to MPG2 in order to burn the DVD.

I think it is step 2. in your post that is causing the problem.
