Updating Vegas Pro 14 build 161 to 178 Windows 10 Problems

JJKizak wrote on 10/24/2016, 3:16 PM

After downloading build 178 and installing over 161 Vegas 14  in Windows 10 pro it will not open because it has no key number. I removed build 178 then re-installed build 161 and everything was fine and did not have to put in the key number or reset all of the options.

So now how do I get the serial number into build 178 when it does not ask for any and does not seem to get the key from the previous build?

For your first install of Vegas Pro 14 on that system, did you first have a trial installed or did you install the purchased version first?

If you installed a trial first, try running the trial of the new build, and then activate using your purchased serial.

I installed the purchased version first. (disc version not download)  That works just fine. Before the download of the build 178 the Magix website showed the serial number before downloading. I'm not sure if the download was a trial or not but the serial number was correct.

So there is a new version out? Great! What are the improvements in it and how do I get hold of it? There is no update message withing Vegas 14 so far.

No there is no update message, but that will follow. What you have to do is to download the downloader in your account again. That will download the new version.

To the installation problems: if you see that the installation of the 178 over the 161 does not work, what you can try is to deinstall the new installed 178. But then install the 178 instead of the 161!

I uninstalled build 161, re-booted then installed build 178 and everything worked fine. So I assume that you cannot overwrite like I did the first time. Amazing that all the options were as I had originally set plus the project list.

To run 178 are you saying that you unistalled 161 and then ran the installer again which downloaded & installed 178.

Up till now one simply downloaded the latest version and installed over the top. Have Magix released any instructions relating to updating?   I've not seem any. Aheads up would be appreciated.

How do you download specific versions?
