If you open a project file created in an older version of Vegas (e.g. 13) and save it to the Vegas 21 version... And then if you copy the event and paste it into another Vegas 21 project, this event will stop working.
1. create a project file in older versions of Vegas (i don't know is there any difference between them, 13, 14,15, 16 etc.) 2. drag and drop media files (video clip) and save. 3. open Vegas 21 new project 4. open ANOTHER Vegas 21 project *5. Try to open old vegas project (veg) in Vegas 21 (backward compatibility) and save as a Vegas 21 project file. 6. Now copy video events from timeline in one project to ANOTHER. 7. Pasted videos will not work (a black screen, different troubles)
*If you don't do that, you will be not able to copy-paste between projects
YouTube video is better for understanding so If you can't uinderstand, I can record it and show.
I have update on the topic. I managed to reproduce the same error. We don't have to do anything from my list above. This error occurs even in a few simple steps like: open Vegas 21 and import clip from the same camear. I show it in a short video here, please watch it:
(Media info of my files was in the begginging of movie, on screen for a few seconds).
All files come from the same camera. Previously, the project included also videos from the same camera. I imported files from the same camera and after importing they turned black.
I think the new build ruined everything. Here is a test between two different versions of the programs:
Can moderators change a title of this thread? This bug is not from "copying events between projects only".

Interesting you are seeing this issue with so4compound in use ('enable legacy AVC'). I hadn't noticed issues with that and 600D files, of which I have many!
Probably YES. Before an update everything was OK. I cant reinstall and back to previous versions because I have a lot of my personal workspace, a lot of keyboard shortcuts, customized toolbars etc. A lot hours of setting this.
Understood. Though uninstalling 300 and reinstalling 208 shouldn't touch any of your personalizations as VEGAS doesn't really delete config type files (that's why sometimes resets that do clear it are required).
And you are seeing this with footage from both Canons? I have lots of 600D footage to test though not much from 5DMKIV (never used it but have a test file or two).
I assume you are avoiding MXCompound for other reasons?
@Vegas21_user Thanks for the extra information, which is very helpful in diagnosing your issues and suggesting solutions.
Because your footage is being decoded by so4compoundplug.dll, I assume you have "Enable legacy AVC decoding" selected in "Options > Preferences > File I/O". So I also assume you were having trouble with mxcompoundplug.dll as well, which is the default reader for your Canon 5D files in VP21 build 300. mxcompoundplug.dll is undergoing intensive development and improvements can be expected in forthcoming builds.
You have a 3rd option, which is the older compoundplug.dll. To use that in VP21, rename the C:\Program Files\VEGAS\VEGAS Pro 21.0\FileIO Plug-Ins\so4compoundplug folder to something like "so4compoundplug-RENAMED", then restart Vegas. That *might* be more stable for you, but bear in mind that some other formats might perform better if decoded by mxcompoundplug.dll or so4compoundplug.dll, or might not decode at all if you have so4compoundplug.dll disabled like this.

Do you have a discipline in place for saving system images at various stages, like just before a numbered Vegas Pro upgrade?
Nick, I found your advice helpful. The proposed method of solving the problem WORKS. All clips play correctly for me. Thank you for your time, help and knowledge you have.
But please tell me what the Vegas community should do in this situation? It cannot be that something suddenly stops working for the owner of this software.
Using my problem as an example, are you able to make any improvements to the operation of our program?
As a curiosity, I will tell you that a Vegas employee (a support man) replied to me to "convert the original files to a different format".
You understand? You have more knowledge and greater willingness than people who work in Vegas. Work like: main job.
But please tell me what the Vegas community should do in this situation? It cannot be the case that something suddenly stops working for the owner of this software.
The VEGAS community should try to figure out if the problem is replicable and then report it to the developers so it can be fixed. We've already done that with numerous issues with media decoding in build 300.
Could you share a link to download any media that causes issues with MXcompound in 300? I don't plan on testing so4compound as it's on the way out and if I wanted to use it would use build 208 or VP 19 or 20.
I had to turn on some options to my footage start to work. It was a long time ago. And my settings remained rthe same.
@Vegas21_user That sounds like you haven't tried mxcompoundplug decoding at all in VP21 build 300. If you want to see the benefits of the team's current development of the mxcompoundplug, you'll need to deselect "Enable legacy AVC decoding" and restart Vegas. You should certainly try that when the next update arrives, if not before. And you should experiment with the other options in Options>Preferences>File I/O, in particular "Hardware decoder to use".
Also note that the older compoundplug decoder does not utilize the GPU for decoding. It's all CPU. So, in theory, the later decoders should give better performance (smoother playback), with hardware decoding enabled.
Also, having "Enable legacy AVC decoding" selected might have contributed to some of the other issues you've reported on the forum.
...But please tell me what the Vegas community should do in this situation?...

Of course, here you are: https://mab.to/t/3CKrSibKndE/eu1 I've chosen the shortest clip I have. If you are curious about that "what he said" in video just ask, it's funny.
The support person I contacted (who suggested that I convert all the files to another format before importing - what a waste of time) closed the ticket. Very rude behavior. She didn't even find out from me how the problem could be solved (thanks to you).
I see black frames with VP 19 (so4compound with QSV) I'm not seeing black frames with VP 21 (mxcompound with NVDEC)
For preferences, file io I'd suggest staying on the defaults unless a problem makes it necessary to change to the older legacy AVC/experimental HEVC (both are so4compound).
