VMS HD Platinum 11 - Help for New User

I just received V 11 of this program. I know it is now an old version, but it is the last one that will run on Win XP/Pro SP3. It was inexpensive - $46.

There is no manual, but that does not surprise me. Almost no program does today. What upsets me is that in the Documents folder on the DVD there is only a Quick Start Guide & no manual.

I lnow the Quick Start Manual is relative large (86 pages), but I assume a full manual would be larger.

I just searched the page to download updates and it looks like no version had a manual. Thee are a few manuals at CafePress. Does anyone know of another vendor?

My initial use will be to input a DVD created by Adobe Premier Elements 9. I want to delete some video before and after the part I want to keep. This is about 1 hr out of 3 hr. I do not plan to do additional editing.

I then want to save it as a video file to play on Windows Media Player, possibly WMV or AVI. I don't know which is better.

Is this work possible or should I be using a different, more simple program, from another vendor?

Any help would be appreciated. Up to now I have used only Sound Forge Pro 10 for simple audio editing.

Thank you, Larry

The Quick Start is the Manual.
Even versions that call it a Manual have no more information.
If you want to learn basic timeline navigation, editing, and rendering, the manual is a good place to start.

There are interactive tutorials, a huge knowledgebase, these forums, and hundreds of other resources on the web to help you along the way.

I offer some free basic instruction on my Web site.

You'll find the 8-part series of tutorials along the left side of this page.

Bigred - your stated objective in your OP stage sounds a little shaky. I think you are headed for multiple problems.

To get clarity - slow down your narrative and explain your source video material - is it written only to a set-top player DVD with .vob file structure?

When you say edit - you say delete? Is that all?

DONT play with .wmv for any reason.

Why not structure playback in VLC instead WinMedia?

The source is the VOB files. What does that stand for?

The only "editing" I want to do is save about one hour out of the 3 hours in the VOB file. That means deleting about 1/2 hour from the beginning up the the part I want to save and then delete about 1-1/2 hour after that part.

I will take your advice and not save it to WMV. What about AVI? What do you suggest?

Sorry for the stupid question, but what is VLC?

VLC media player. Very good and plays back just about every format. It's also free. http://www.videolan.org/
