OOPS! Dear customer, Due to a technical error you received an email...

I got the following email today:

Dear customer, Due to a technical error, last week you received an email with the subject line ‘VEGAS Movie Studio 15 is finally here!‘. You were not the intended recipient of this email and the serial number provided is not valid.

The problem causing this error has now been fixed.

We would like to apologize for any confusion this may have caused and in return, would like to offer you a coupon for $/€ 20 off the full or upgrade versions VEGAS Movie Studio 15 Platinum and VEGAS Movie Studio 15 Suite.

Just enter the following code* in the VEGAS Creative Software shop and the $/€ 20 discount will be applied to VEGAS Movie Studio 15 Platinum and Suite full or upgrade versions:

Oops...!

It still works and seems to be legal (for now - next update will probably cripple things), but clearly someone somewhere messed up...so am I required to un-install and go back to v14??? And if you screwed up do you really want to go down this path with your customers?

I've had the same email. I purchased 14 at the end of December and read a few weeks later that 15 was coming out. Also read on the forums 2 weeks ago that users who recently purchased 14 would receive an email to get 15 free. Really pleased when I got the original email and within a few hours downloaded and installed 15.

However, I also removed 14 and its additional components and did some tidying of my harddrive and then installed 15. Loaded several video projects I have done for a drama group over the past 12mnths to take advantage of the new features etc.

Then I receive the email to say there was a mistake and I shouldn't have 15?

So Magix what do I do now?

At this moment in time I am still using 15 as I don't fancy re-installing 14 but I am not paying what will effectively be twice within 2months. I really am so disappointed in this.

I have the opposite challenge in that I bought the 2-for-1 offer but in the two weeks since VM15's release I have yet to receive the serial numbers for 15, despite chasing up many times with promises of the serials. Maybe you have mine ;-)

The only route left for me is to get a refund it seems.

A big mess....unbelievable

Certainly seems to be. I've had a promise every few days for 2 weeks and still nothing.

I received the same email, this sucks. I am new to Magix/Vegas, bought the 14 suite in November 2017. Was so happy to get the 15 email, thought it was just a normal upgrade, then total deflation and shitty experience, to get the 'oh sorry' crap, but we will give you $20 off if you upgrade, wow, way to go!. What sort of business is this? Vegas/Magix should cop this themselves, it's their mistake, it's akin to giving a child a sweet, then taking it out of their mouth after they have sampled it, terminating the experience, and asking them to pay for it, if they still want it. F-OFF!.

An update to the dismal support offered by Magix. In good faith when I received the email to freely upgrade and a serial provided I immediately did. I wasn't surprised at the upgrade as I had only just purchased 14 a month or so previously. Upgraded, removed 13 and 14 as this time as I didn't want any issues and to free up space. A day or so later I completed a project within the new version that I had been doing for a local womens theatre group.

I received the email a week or so later from Magix to say they had made a mistake etc and that I wasn't entitled to the upgrade. I thought this is rediculous perhaps they are making a mistake. Tried contacting support with no reply.

This evening I go to load up Movie Studio Platinum 15 and it now says the serial number is invalid and it has been removed from my account.

Magix, are you seriously expecting me to pay twice within such a short space of time? I am now going to have to download 14 and re-install and attempt to get everything set as it was before. And on top I doubt very much the last completed video I did, incidentally was at no charge as was part of a group that all they do is raise funds for local projects etc.

I have been using vegas since 10 and with Sony the support was fantastic. I cannot believe this as over the week I was using the software totally unaware of YOUR mistake I have a horrible feeling that other projects I have done and tried out in 15 will not work in 14. If this proves to be the case, then I am done with Vegas totally.

@andys yeh same, they have now removed access. so now there is a nag screen on 14 to upgrade to 15 for 39.99 which i have done, but are now requesting a refund, due to the simple fact that, the same video imported into 14 has no issues, whereas into 15, the audio is out of sync, not just a little bit either, way out, so i can only use 14 anyway. i have tried this with half a dozen vids ready for edit, and same thing for each one, unless i re-encode it before import to 15, no thanks.

@gredwa Did the $/€20 discount code work, and take the upgrade price down to $/€19.99?

There is a good chance your audio sync issue in VMS15 would be solved by disabling so4compoundplug.dll: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/avc-xavc-s-issues-in-vp15-try-disabling-so4compoundplug-dll--108345/

@nick, omg bro, i didn't try that discount code, but im sure they wouldn't allow it right? i completely forgot about that discount code.

oh mate, well i have requested a refund, so we will see where that heads first, i shouldn't have to go searching for solutions, which i did, and couldn't find and no way was i going to sit there trying to sync the audio up, it was a mess every time, a nightmare indeed, really a nice taste left in the mouth, NOT!

ding, idea, magix/vegas, how about if you know your product has an issue, you let everyone know by email so they can apply a damn fix and not get turned off and frustrated and then demanding a refund for your own issues, then going somewhere else and use something else. ding, you will only lose business with this lack of business acumen and care for your customers.

Why wouldn't they allow it? I expect they would, as your situation is exactly what it was for.

The so4 situation has been a bit of a nightmare for many users of both Vegas Pro and Movie Studio since VP15 was introduced. For the worst cases (DJI, GoPro, Xiaomi Yi footage) it has now been disabled by default. On the other hand it does add support for some formats like some iPhone and Panasonic GH5 formats that couldn't be opened correctly before. I know the developers are working hard on fixing the issues and hopefully future updates will be better.

gredwa wrote on 4/3/2018, 2:14 AM

@nick guess i could write to them and ask right? nothing ventured nothing gained they say ;-)

its a shame that creators must have propriety code and can't get together with one source and use it, save customers a lot of hassles i think. let's hope they get it together to make end user experiences streamlined and pleasant enough to want to stay around. im still quite a noob in vid work and not likely to become pro anytime soon.

@Nick Hope Thanks to Nick for mentioning the discount. Luckily my email server backs up my email until a point I decide to flush them. I found the email as regards the discount and have just purchased the upgrade at I think £14.60 or there abouts.

I'll still say that magix caused an almighty cock-up on this and as usual the little person always gets the brunt of it. Perhaps next time (there's always a next time) better inform your customers promptly.

Then again I haven't installed it yet so this should be fun.

And mine has of course stopped working...because it needed to be re-activated. Uninstall - delete...move on to another product. Corel VideoStudio X10 is honestly now better and easier to use. They lost a customer for life on this fiasco.
