A few DVD burning questions....

Curt schrieb am 18.07.2006 um 16:39 Uhr
1. I've heard a few people on this forum suggest that DVDA is not the best at actually burning DVD's. They've suggested creating the DVD in DVDA and then burning it with Nero. How is this done?

2. Have the burning issues with DVDA that make people go to Nero been addressed in DVDA version 3?

3. I have one project that uses almost the entire disc and I'm wondering if burning it at a lower speed is better. I've burned it at 4x, and have had a few problems with other players. I wondering if burning it at 2x would make things a little more stable. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

I have an ancient description for an older version of Nero, but it is still the same with the current version, as long as you have the full-fledged version of Nero:

Nero to Burn DVD

DVDA3 burns everything just fine, but is still a very crude burning program (it's a good authoring program). Nero lets you much more flexibly add data to a DVD; more easily burn multiple copies; and lets you do minor tweaks.

As for burning at a lower speed, this has been discussed dozens of times in the past year on this forum. My advice is to burn at the maximum speed your burner of media allow. With good media there shouldn't be any difference. However, the best thing is to get CD Speed (free download) and test the quality of burns yourself. See if you get different quality at different speeds.

Thanks.

I did try the CD/DVD speed download. The interesting thing was that even though I was scanning a disc that was burned at 4x, it scanned it at 2x. The disc was a Taiyo Yuden, FWIW.

I've had this problem with a particular DVD project. My sister's wedding to be exact. The disc includes a one hour program of the wedding and reception highlights, along with a bunch of short "bonus" features. The first time I burned it, I used cheap off the shelf media and put paper labels on them. I know, BIG mistake! Most of the copies failed at some point.

So I reburned them on printable TY discs. Now my parents are claiming their copy still won't play right.

Define "won't play right" - won't play at all? or what? How old is their player?

Yeah, I should have clarified. They claim that the disc will play for a few minutes and then it will either freeze or skip. Sometimes it won't load at all.

Their deck is a Sony DVD/VCR combo. I have the same exact one in my living room, and when I play these discs before they go out, they play fine.

AAARRRRGHHH!!!
