At least they didn't follow the FCPX style of "always auto-ripple" on editing. I hate that.

I assume larger market for this are Mac users with Sony camcorders. OR, it is their step-by-step entry to Mac World... It's common I heard Mac users have to deal with Sony's incompatible formats, and it is answered now by Catalyst Edit, doing on-location Quick Edits, or continue bring this quick edits into more serious NLE of their choices.

Probably similar to GoPro Studio for GoPro cameras.

If Catalyst Edit works like VP then I'll use it but if it works like PPro or FCPX then I won't. I've got PPro and AE but never use them because I dislike the way they function. I've got Poser, iClone, Carrara and Lightwave but I always go back to DAZ Studio. I own Hitfilm but just don't enjoy working with it. The point I'm making is that I enjoy working with VP because of the way it works so that's why I want it to develop much more integration. I could go elsewhere for that maybe in the future but then I'd have to work with something completely different that maybe I didn't get along with. VP has a certain kind of magic for me so I hope Sony don't junk that for a shiny new way of doing things that isn't to my taste.

Believe me, if Sony integrated stuff with Vegas that changed the way it worked I'd be the first one to complain! So I'm not for integration that ruins what I love.

I have made my living from editing on Sony Vegas since version 3. The simple fact is ever since Sony bought Vegas, the development and support has gotten worse through out the years. Vegas use to be the leader in new innovations, but now is lacking at keeping up with the competitors. I would love to stay with Vegas if it would sort out bugs and gpu support, but now we are being herded into Catalyst. Sony has never been at the forefront of NAME brand editing and that worries some of my clients and I feel that Catalyst will have the same problem with "The Name" and with the poor customer service Sony provides.

SVP13 RIP

I was also underwhelmed by the new features in VP13 but maybe there's mileage in proxy editing for a faster workflow? The problem for me was that Sony hasn't spent time explaining the potential for some of these new features. If they spent more time consulting their customers when rolling out improvements perhaps then I would feel more invested as a customer. If Sony had a similar hands on approach of FXHome/Hitfilm then this might help.
