Boris Graffiti and the Mark of the Beast

mhbstevens schrieb am 19.08.2004 um 02:14 Uhr
Laying around on my Hard Drive is an unused and unconfigured Boris Graffiti. It's been there a while and I can't even remeber if I bought it or if it is a trial version, but today I thought I might give it a whirl, and the first thing I did was to open the pdf format manual.

My manual has six-hundred and sixty-six (666) pages! This is a huge amount of manual. I have not yet developed the courage to start reading it. Also, with the number of pages being the infamouse "Mark of the Beast" I'm not sure if I should even try.

Is this character generator worth the reading of such a huge amount?

Not sure about that exactly, but I bought the new dvd tutorial on Red and the possibilities of it and Vegas are staggering imho. Of course, it barely went into text in any great detail. But if they come out with a more detailed dvd like Vegas does, then I think it won't be too terribly hard to catch on.

YEs yes yes yes . . I want a DVD to show me HOW to use BG3 intelligently! It really bugs me I can't get my head around it. Others have tried - very patiently - to assist me, but I need to "see" the visuals and them working too!

It isn't me and it isn't BG3 it is the combination of ME and BG3 that makes for this particular unholy alliance! ! ! !

Grazie . . arrgghhhh . . !

For what it's worth, I'm no expert. But the dvds gave me the general belief that I can get somewhere with it.
I'm a big believer in dvds first, then books later. Often books are more in depth, but you need to see someone doing things first. Zen would approve. ANyway, then when you get the basics, a good detailed book starts to make sense and is much quicker reference if nothing else.
I just really give credit to Chris Vadnais (the author of the Boris dvds). He has a special section on how to use Boris with Vegas and you can tell he really gets excited about Vegas. Also, he shows ways to work around the 1 frame preview in Boris that drives us Vegas people crazy. Anyone who mentions how to use framserver to help with this is really keeping up and doing some research.

I have both Boris FX and Graffitti. The manuals (Mine came with the printed versions) are both huge, intimidating, and not very helpful. It was not until I saw Chris' tutorial ) giving examples of how the interface works and a sample of what could be done quickly and easily) that I was able to do anything. Now the program is less intimidating and I can actually generate results. ALthough there is not a lot of time spent on Graffiti on either the Boris Red Tutorial or Chris' version, just having an example of how the interface works helped me a lot.

Good luck to you!

I will agree that Chris' tutorial from Class On Demand is helpful. It deals more with RED but all the products have the same interface. You can definitely learn more about the interface and how the pieces interrelate.

I attempt to get you started with a short round-trip Boris Graffiti LTD tutorial on my web site. If you have the LTD version that ships with Vegas 5, I wouldn’t bother reading the manual. 99% of it can’t be done with that version. In fact, you can’t even complete the first tutorial because of missing functions. That’s why I wrote my quick tutorial. It will at least get you in and out of it with a title created.

A similar post was on the forum some time ago. I decided to e-mail Boris and tell them about this problem. I asked a "quick start" guide.
No feedback so far...

I guess if you guys massively ask for it, they'll have to budge a bit..?

No kidding. And we're really spoiled too. But this isn't really such a bad thing at all. We happy spend money and get a lot of great info in return while the instructor get to quit their day jobs ( I hope!). They deserve it.
So yeah, Boris- figure it out. There's a big market for more dvds.
