Not at all! I was merrily saying that the manual is a great tool but I would not grow dependent on it. Also, I actually learned how to get around Vegas without the aid of the manul at first believe it or not. Of course I ralized later that the manul was avialble for download free of charge! LOL! I hope there was no harm done with my comment.

As John Meyer pointed out, there are numerous little gems in the manual that one would not figure out just by playing with it. In my opinion, not reading the manual, at least once, is simply insane.

I do a lot of consulting work and my policy is that if a client calls and asks me a question that I know for certain is clearly covered in the manual, I charge them double.

You know, even though Vegasdoesn't ship with the manual, a lot of questions could be answered if people also looked at the shortcut card that does come with Vegas.

But, if oyu buy the online version & don't get the card, then you don't care about the manual eigther. :)

Bought online, printed the manual, read the entirety of the 4.0 manual and skimmed the entirety of the 5.0 manual. Bought a super stapler that would drive a staple through the whole stack of paper.

If we made a long list of vegas issues and then had to rank them 1-100 I don't think the manual would run very high. Yeah, it's on the list but I bet I could find 20 things that would be more worthwhile. But please lets not start making lists here.

As an audio/video professional and magazine writer/reviewer, I can offer an additional not-entirely-relevant perspective to the No Manual issue:

It is quite possible that the reason it was mentioned was that the author was annoyed at not having all the info physically in front of him while writing his review.

I did not have a problem with the lack of Vegas manual when reviewing V4 and V5 (for Pro Audio Review and TV Technology magazines) because I had been using it for many years and am (hopefully) aware of most of its operations. But for someone who receives the product for review and only has limited time to cover the product in a meaningful manner, the lack of printed manual is definitely a hinderance.

Not right or wrong, or an argurment for including/not including a printed manual, but something of which to be aware regarding the reviewer's comment. A slightly cynical but true grain of salt....

Ok, Sony, Listen up.

Print a copy of the online manual and send it along with the review kit next time, with a note that having printed for the reviewer is a courtesy and that the normal manual is online for the convenience of the user, that it is online to allow it to be conveniently upgraded, and that it is online to save money for shipping and printing a manual that essential would go out of date soon, anyway.

There. Did I cover everything?
