I’ve been given a DVD which was recorded on a set top DVD recorder. It has no Audio_TS and Video_TS folders of a typical DVD-R, so I believe it is a DVD-RAM format. I can rip an ISO file off of the DVD and make duplicates of the DVD, but how do I get it into an AVI or other editable format?
TMPGenc DVD Author will directly read a DVD-RAM disk and the special file format called VRO they use and can convert it to a regular dvd disk or extract the data .
Just simply copy the .vro file from the DVD-RAM to your PC hard drive, change the extension to .mpg, then author the disc using the .mpg file. No actual conversion is necessary ussually. Might have to demux it and convert the audio to wav.
If when you copy the vro file over and it is corrupted - you will need to intall a UDF 2.01 driver for XP ... panasonics and few others write to the this file structure and XP can not properly ready this format natively ..
My set top player won't play it but my Win XP Pro mach will play it using only Intervideo WinDVD, and not WMP.
I downloaded the UDF 2.01 driver from PCWorld and when I started to install it, a message cam up saying this mach. had Win NT and already had UDF, and no need to install it.
Then I went to ZDNet where Adaptec had a driver there that all the XP owners complained it didn't work after installing it. Now the download link is not working.
When I try to view the DVD using Win Explorer; Explorer acts as if there is no DVD in the drive.
http://www.isobuster.com/ , even the free version shoudl be able to see any files on the disk and extract them (maybe for udf you have to pay - not positive)
Thanks, this program does let me see the folders and files, but I cant drag them into the TMPG Enc program. How do I convert the IFO and VRO files into AVI?
I sent the DVD-RAM to a local dup house I use and they put the media on a MiniDV tape for meand sent it back to me the same day. I just wish I could do it myself the next time it comes up.
