DVD's burnt but does not play in machine!!!!!!!

Okay I have been using dvda for sometime now & have made many projects & none I repeat NONE have failed. I will say that I have had a great run so far & have been learning something new everytime I use the software...

With all of my projects I have not changes anything from the standard settings excpet for the fact it's PAL 7 Not NTSC & in Australia we use dvd-r not dvd+d disc's

My latest project was finished & ready to burn, so the normal step's I do is to render the video & create it into it's own dvd directory & then go onto making 1 original copy DVD or master disc all from the origninal file (setup) once dvda has finished for the first time. This is a re-writeable dvd for the first disc
After doing this I check the first dvd in 2 machines to make sure it play's fine while the iso file is created...
Once it's created I then burn a new copy & check it before being done with the project This is normal blank dvd.
Within my projects are 2 or 3 menu's with about 4 seperat clips on each menu & they are all linked together to play like a real movie would.

I had a client ring me to say I had a mistake in a video so I corrected the clip & then went into rending a new version only to find its a major problem now.
Once the 1st render is finished & the first disk is made it cannot be played in any of the dvd players that I have! I have even tried burning it to a normal blank disc as a masterbut it also failed. I have also tried 4 different types of disc all of which are no good.
The burn speeds I have used are 8 12 & 16 all of which have failed!! 8 isas slow as the machine can go.
I have tried everything I can think of. The machine settings have not changed at all.
the software has been removed ccleaned the computer & put back on & it does the samething!!!

I have een tried starting making new projects with new & old footage still no good!
I can burn all my older projects & they work perfectly.
All videos are edited in Sony Vegas & no setting have been changed in that either, I am the only person that uses the computer
please help

First, rename your DVD Architect file and save it in a new folder. This will keep new render files from bumping into old.

Then, rather than burning directly to disc, create Prepared Files in a new folder. Once it's done, check to ensure that this has created a VIDEO_TS folder full of .vob and other files. If so, the program has done its job.

Then use ImgBurn (a free download) to burn this VIDEO_TS folder to a disc. Make sure you select the option to verify the disc after burning. And make sure to use a good, quality disc, like Verbatim, rather than something like Memorex.

Advice for the future:
Don't overwrite existing prepared folders with edited or changed versions.
Give the folder a new name instead. Saves a lot of confusion.

Every time I have made a change to the project I create a new directory for the new project to be saved into.
I have tried using software like DVD descriptor & shrink to bring in the rendered video_ts folder & tried to burn it that way as well....
I also have tried many times burning directly from the new ISO file directly to the disc including verbatim disc but have failed.
I will check for a firmware update for the DVD burner & download the imgburn software to try it.
It's strange since the projects I've created months ago can be burnt & viewed without a problem but only recently this has happened

2 things spring to mind: Has windows updated itself? Can you try burning the project on another PC? Burners do go wrong. I had a similar situation once, and deleted the burner from device manager, then rebooted and let windows reload it. Worked fine afterwards. DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK THOUGH ;-)

It's got me stuped I have downloaded an update to DVDA to see if that helped but nothing new to report on that idea.
Windows is setup to auto download updates & has always been like that since getting the computer.
Might leave deleting the burner as a last resort
Another thought is the project size.
I normally click the auto fit button to let DVDA work out the size but with this problem I have also tried to adjust the size myself to see of that helped..
Would to much information be problem it projects is only just over the 4.7 disc size

Okay well I have downloaded image burn software & burnt my first iso filed...
it worked perfectly :)
Im going to make a new project tonight & do the same thing again & use image burn to make this disc, I will let everyone know how it goes
thanks for the advice & tips

After burning a new copy of my current project as I got home the out come is it failed again!!!
I ahve slowed the burn rate down to x4 speed.it has helped but also has not fixed the current problem....
If i play the dvd back on the computer it works perefectly but this isn't what need. The person that has complained about my work has also had this disc in his machine only to not work. the menu system works fine & most of the clips but not all of them.!!!
the older vserion of DVDA worked without a problem but installing the update has stuffed that idea!!!
any other ideas?

"If i play the dvd back on the computer it works perefectly"

Rather than keep hitting the ! key over and over, try some practical troubleshooting.

1. Try a different burner.
2. Try updating the burner firmware.
3. Try setting the burner as "generic" in DVDA.
4. Try rolling back your DVDA software.
YOU STILL HAVE NOT TOLD US WHICH VERSION YOU ARE USING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Best.

Okay, I'm running DvdA 5.0 build 161.
I have 2 burners in the computer & have tried to use both but they are both doing the same to the DVDs every time I burn. The 1st is a hp bd b dh8e2l drive, the second is an lg bd-re ggw-h20l drive
The computer is a hp desktop running windows 7 64 bit on a 2.93ghz with 10gig ram
I haven't done a roll back I think I had a very old version of DVDA likenabour 120 or 130ish & haven't done a roll back to see for any difference. The reason I upgraded to the current version of DVDA was I couldn't import some still pictures properly & never checked for updates until something went wrong.
I opened up an old project & the current one that I'm having problems with & the only thing I could see was that the bit rate in the old project was 7.309 & the current is 6.640 All other setting look to be the as I the burn section & project settings being ac-3 audio @ 192 bit rate, resolution is 720x576 for pal with 16:9 widescreen & mpeg-2 video format.
I have used dvda, image burn or DVD decrypted to burn the DVD from the ISO they are all basically do the same.
All the videos when edited in sony vegas movie studio hd platinum build 179 & saved as m2t files if any of that helps
musicvid10 schrieb am 22.03.2013 um 14:16 Uhr
DVDA 5 is pretty stable.
You "are" giving DVDA compliant mpeg-2 video, correct?
borristheboxer schrieb am 22.03.2013 um 22:21 Uhr
All my videos come from sony vegas movies studio hd platinum 10.
They are saved as the following
MainConcept MPEG-2(*.mpg;*.m2v;*.m2t;*.mpa)
The template is 1080-50i
Audio: 384kps
Video 25. Frames
musicvid10 schrieb am 23.03.2013 um 02:03 Uhr
You are not supplying compliant DVD video.

The Video Template must be DVD Architect.
That is a video only template. Your audio must be compliant 48/16 PCM or AC3 DVD.
Here is the link, and best of luck.

Hold on. It's just one person complaining and just on one device? Have they tried it on another device or PC? Have you tried it on your set top device?
borristheboxer schrieb am 23.03.2013 um 04:13 Uhr
okay this is a little confusing for me.
Am i right in saying I need to render my video clips twice?
the first time would be as follows
Format: MainCenceot MPEG-2
template: DVD Architect Pal WideScreen (as example)

which out puts a nice video but no sound, but whats the next part to do?
I can't seem to see another section about just recording audio only, shouldn't vegas render both audio & video for architect in 1 redering?
MSmart schrieb am 23.03.2013 um 05:41 Uhr
Not when using the standard templates, the second part is to render audio using the Dolby Digital AC-3 template.

By rendering the video and audio using the same filename, DVDA automatically adds the audio to the project. All that's different is the file extension.

What of my Qs?
borristheboxer schrieb am 23.03.2013 um 06:11 Uhr
I dont know where you mean to render the audio, I haven't done it this way before
MSmart schrieb am 23.03.2013 um 06:42 Uhr
musicvid was referring to Vegas when he said to render separate video and audio streams.

If you've never had to do that before, what template are you using, in Vegas, to feed into DVDA?

Again, what of my Qs?

ADDED: I re-read through your posts, you say you have Vegas Movie Studio 10, so you're most likely using DVD Architect Studio 5.0. Regardless, let's start at the beginning.... in VMS, what is the source of your video and what format is it? (Text view from MediaInfo

The person has not tried it in a computer as I said to them to destory the dvd.
Yes I have tried a new copy in 3 of my dvd players & have noticed the problem they where talking about.

I'm running DvdA 5.0 build 161
I'm using sony vegas movie studio hd platinum build 179 for editing & making the video footage.

I save the video's in Vegas as follows
format: Mainconept
template: HDV-1080-50i
they produce *.m2t files which I then import into DVDA
in DVDA i make the menu's set up the clips in order then render it to produce the dvd required

Each of these files is a race clip from an event i've been working on so they need to be able to work from a menu by them self, they are linked in DVDA to play like a dvd would as well.

This has worked for me several times but when a speeling mistake was pointed out I went & fixed the mistake, since doing that I only get non working dvd's because of the fault i have been describing

Example: on the disk it would be 15 races...
race 3 race 7 & race 13 will not work off the menu system but the other's are fine

Arthur.S schrieb am 23.03.2013 um 15:14 Uhr
"format: Mainconept - template: HDV-1080-50i" is a Blu-ray compatible format, not DVD. In Vegas, render to the DVDA Widescreen template for the TV standard you're in. (NTSC, North America. PAL, UK.) If you want a file that will go back on the Vegas timeline, go to the audio tab and tick "include audio". This will produce MPEG2 instead of M2V, so DVDA will re-render the audio ONLY to Dolby Digital. Or, as described above, use the Vegas DD template to create a separate DD file in the SAME location, with the SAME name as the video file, then DVDA will automatically import it in as the audio at the same time as you import the video. NOTHING then will need to be rerendered. :-)
borristheboxer schrieb am 23.03.2013 um 22:39 Uhr
What audio tab?
If i reneder the project in vegas for dvd architect there is no audio setting, it's vision only.
which format & wh template are you talking about to use?
Chienworks schrieb am 24.03.2013 um 01:33 Uhr
Let's start with this question: are you aware of the difference between DVD (standard definition) and BluRay (high definition)?

When you way you're making a DVD, that's standard definition, 480 lines (or 576 in PAL country). But you say you're making 1080i files in Vegas, which are HD high definition. You can't put HD files on a DVD. This means that DVDArchitect has to convert the HD files you're giving it to standard definition. While this shouldn't cause any problems, it's inefficient, time consuming, probably not as good quality, and may open you up to other puzzling issues you'd probably rather avoid.

When you render in Vegas you should use the NTSC (or PAL) DVD Architect widescreen template, as this will produce MPEG2 files that are optimized for use on a DVD. These files will be silent, no audio.

Then, render the audio separately using Dolby AC3. Give the resulting file exactly the same name, except .ac3 for the extension, as the video file, and in the same output directory. DVDArchitect will then automatically find it and use it along with the video.
borristheboxer schrieb am 24.03.2013 um 03:01 Uhr
please explain more about how to render the audio
which setting & where is it?
is it a template or a custom thing?
I dont know where it is in vegas. Everything I look at has audio & video execpt for DVD achitect templates

I make the video's hd so I'm able to produce both types of dvd from the 1 file & has been working for me before in the past

Select the DVDA template, then choose "customize template". I'm using Vegas Pro 12, but this has been the same from every version I've used since Vegas 6.
