Error Message When Trying to Burn

When I try to burn a DVD using DVDA 2.0b, I receive the following error message:

'SFMMCX'-(17)

-'MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ-831S 1.90'-(0)
Module sfmmcx.cpp Line 389
An illegal request was received.
The data in the track is not compatible with the current command.

I'm using a Toshiba Satellite laptop with a OEM Matshita DVD-RAM UJ-831s 1.90 burner. I'm fairly certain I have the latest firmware updates, and I've tried using various types of DVD-R media, all with the same result.

This is the first time I've tried using either Vegas or DVDA, so I have little experience with these programs, or even PC's in general (I've been a Mac guy for years). Has anyone encountered this before? I'm running out of ideas.

Unfortunately, working with various burners has been and continues to be one of the major weaknesses of DVDA.

My suggestion - download the trial version of CopyToDVD from www.vso-software.com and see if it works for you; if it does, you have a solution. Another option is to purchase a copy of Nero.

And of course you should formally report this to Sony using the support link at the top of the page, though you'll likely get the response to upgrade to the current version.

If you're going for Nero try to get Nero 6 - the jury isn't (yet) too happy about Nero 7 which seems to be giving many people troubled minds ever since it was released.

Haven't had problems myself with burning DVD's in Nero 7 but burning cd's costed me a dozen or so coasters because there seems to be a bug in 'pause' settings.
Overall the performance of Nero 7 is way behind on version 6.

On the other hand, unlike others, i've not had (m)any problems with DVDA burning
