Flash (swf)

For the first time, I tried creating a flash file from a MS project.... When I try to play it, I get an error indicating "device not ready". The template I used was "broadband low".

I downloaded the lastest shockwave player and flash player from macromedia. Not sure what the difference is between the 2 downloads, but I'm thinking one could be a standalone player, and the other an explorer plug-in??

Anyway, any idea why I would get a "device not ready" error message? I do not seem to have any difficulty opening flash content on websites, but do not have any other flash files on my drive to test.

You would need Macromedia's pro authoring tool, Macromedia Flash MX which packages Flash Player to view swf movies. I don't know of any free standalone players.

You can view the swf by opening it with Internet Explorer (hold the shift button down and right click on the file to see the "Open with..." with option).

Many players can open .swf files.

For example:

Quicktime (http://www.quicktime.com)
Real Player One (http://www.real.com)
Media Player Classic (http://sourceforge.net/projects/guliverkli)

Some (like Media Player Classic) require that you have the Internet Explorer plugin installed.

To test if your plugin is properly installed, go to this page on Macromedia's website:

Telling it to open with Explorer seemed to have worked.

To address the issue of free players, this is from the macromedia site:

What is the difference between the Macromedia Flash Player and the Shockwave Player?

Not sure if these constitute "stand-alone" or not.....
