Try go to Options > Preferences > File I/O tab > Enable Legacy AVC decoding.

I recently struggled with looking for an answer to this problem too. My footage was full of random green screens. Here is what helped me:

Project settings > Pixel format > switch from 32 Bit to 8 Bit (full range)
