How to Replace footage wo using project media bin?

Hi -

Does anyone know how to replace/specify proxy replacement footage in the Vegas 8 timeline?

For example, I do visual effects on one piece of media, (like using track motion and vegas blur together etc)... I want to then duplicate that on another piece of media... I can't just use "duplicate track" because I don't see any way to substitute say Clip 2 for the original Clip 1, to have the effects applied to it.

And within single projects, it looks like the only way to replace footage is to do a global project replace media via the project media bin, which won't work right, of course, since it would apply changes to both the clip2 and the original/now replaced clip 1.

In AE, you can just specify replacement/proxy footage easily - how can I do this in V8? I'd like to be able to just right click on a piece of media in the timeline and choose 'replace footage' or 'substitute footage' etc, to change the clip.. ideas?

thanks,

Ken

p.s. in particular, I'm trying to copy/paste attributes (doesn't work with track motion, unless you do 'duplicate track'), from one clip to a second clip, as I have the same effects applied to multiple clips.

Or for example, I did a lot of work on a set of 4 clips, only to find out I need to actually use a new set of 4 clips, how do I specify the updated/replacement footage for those? I will need to use the original 4 clips later in the project still, so I can't substitute using 'project media' since that will apply globally to the entire timeline/veg from what I understand..

You can copy the current clip to another track, then replace the clip using ADD AS TAKE.

Hi Dave, thanks very much.. sorry for the questions recently, much appreciated, your answers - they've been a big help. Have a great weekend! I do rtfm/check the manual/training videos, but there aren't answers easily found in those resources, for some of these questions - so it's great to get some help.

Regards,

Ken

I think you can also use "Create Sub-Clip". Makes another track and puts a link in the project media bin. Then in the Media Project bin right-click on the Sub-Clip and select replace, then nav & load the other file.
